I do the same thing, only towing 24vdc trailers with 12vdc trucks- Change the bulbs out with 24vdc bulbs! The bulbs are exactly the same, just 24vdc! It does take a little time, 10 min or so, but it works like a charm, no fancy electronics, no additional wiring or lights. Just change them back...
Do what I do-
Burn some bio in a generator to heat your mix. No open flame + Methanol, = NO BOOM. (not that I've done that too...)
I charge some batteries or unplug the freezer from the grid and put it on the gen for a good load on the gen.
Burns about 1/2 gallon for the 3 hours. And...
I see the chain on the tongh in the last photo. Trying to keep the trailer from going for a swim?
Good looking gear. Wish my M101 looked 1/4 that good...
Our Navy Diesel school taught me this- White smoke is usually coolent, or sometimes oil. Oil is usually gray or blue. Unburned fuel is black. If the engine isn't getting enough air it will spew black smoke too.
Fuel usually is black....:?

Me, I've been brewing biodiesel for my Dodge 2500 for a couple...
I used to duct tape the handle down, put on some goggles and hearing protection, wedge myself in between the fire pump and seawater service pump in the auxiliary engine room, and go to sleep for about 2 hours needle gunning the same 6in square on the base of one of the pumps... Probably...
Hmmm... If I could sneak out behind one of those trains with another engine, and steal the last few cars off of it....
Worst part about shipping stuff like that out in the open is people love to throw things at the train. Also, when they used to haul cars in the open auto racks...
I feel bad for some of you guys with the EUC horror stories- I sent mine in for the deuce on a wed., needed revisions the next day, sent them in friday, and got approved the following Thurs. Maybe it was because I attached a copy of my orders....
I just hope when I get out I don't...
