I'd recommend a visit to your local Fire Marshal, I think over 60Gallons they consider it a "fuel storage container" and you may have legal obligations for signage, maintenance, and inspections on the tank too.
It's not so much keeping water out (which, yes, you will need to do but...), diesel is hygroscopic (absorbs water from air), and will release water when the conditions are right. This happens when there is enough space in your tank for cold surfaces inside the top of your tank meeting ambient...
Brief question, are there any fire codes in your area preventing you from putting a fuel storage unit under your eaves? I like where this is going, but I'd advise a fair measure of caution about putting a stationary fuel system right up against the house. Either way, its a good thing that...
About 400lbs was packing, three 450Amp alternators (about 13kW each - one for truck, one for aux generator on future trailer build, one spare), one MATV MRAP engine cooling assembly (radiator, 2x air conditioner condensers, engine intercooler, and an oil cooler), and two MATV MRAP air...
Already did some repairs on the shelter to get it secure for storage: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?127292-Gichner-S-250-G-shelter-parts-needed
I figured I should at least give this project a "home" since it has already started. I already bought a S-250(G) shelter from SS Member JesusGatos, and I have some parts to put in already.
Plan is as follows:
Pop-up tent on roof that sleeps up to three, and creates a vestibule at the entrance...
Thanks A Ahab.
Incidentally I have been recently touting a similar line of thought: "A life without challenge or struggle is not worth anything - just look at Paris Hilton or the Kardashians..." :). I think the first half of the line I use is from the movie "A Good Year", but I note similar...
After meeting with the second owner, it seems the "yes" was more of a "maybe". The shop owner would like to do the work himself, but can't quote pricing (even his shop rate) without a good idea of what will need to be done. He is still saying maybe for me doing the stretch myself, but I have...
Just got the phone call from the freight company that CBR Metalworks' pallet shipment of parts has "landed" at my local shipping terminal. I'll be picking it up tomorrow since I'm leaving work early for a family function. Couldn't have worked out better. Also I recently took delivery of a few...
Late update, the first body shop said "no" but it was also a "yes". Based on the conversation the "no" was not really unexpected - however that wasn't the end of it. When we talked the owner had mentioned a shop that a friend was running about ten minutes away which would be more likely to do...
Initial visit to the body shop went okay today a week late - they aren't totally comfortable with the arrangement, but they are going-to/willing-to work with me to get comfortable. This will take a little time to negotiate and massage - they think I'm okay to just go ahead and do the work, but...
I tend to agree with Mike/KE5EUA. The radiation pattern they put in the datasheet is a free-space radiation pattern in a semi-anechoic chamber - not mounted to a vehicle, and definitely not mounted to a vehicle with your configuration (datasheets illustrate the ideal capabilities of the antenna...
So the reason for needing the crew cab arrived on schedule in late August:
So I am officially way, way late :).
I just heard from from Wildboy6x6 that the other donor truck is no longer available (and Steve your PM box is full so I couldn't reply). I have a few other rolling chassis lined...
And I would expect that considering the differences in the power bands - the shift points are probably totally different too. The transmission will probably need a whole different valve body on the bottom end. Also, you might need to change your final drive ratio to account for the higher...
What I meant by going away from GM power, is that I'm going Cummins, donor truck came with a BB 454 V8 gasser in front of a three-speed - and got just a hair over 7MPG on the 300 mile recovery trip. My 40' Gillig transit bus got 8MPG on it's recovery from Oregon, it weighs in over 20klbs...
Don't know about others, but I'm going away from GM power on my rig - I do know that SS member "cucvnut" received the 454 out of my donor truck, probably shoot him an email to find out what his plans are. He also has a build thread here that he picks at.
