818 now with turbo and pics.

Great thread fellas! I'm biding my time and slowly gathering parts for my 5 ton truck build. I've got a couple of things and the engine and tranny so far...475hp 'Silver 92' Detroit Diesel and RTO12513 RoadRanger that'll prolly get turned into an RTOO- I can't wait!!!

Can you jump start a Deuce with 12 v?

I have a dead short somewhere...so parking on hills is key- :-D

    Cranes

The side plates to my crane base and outrigger base are 1/4" plate. I've got 28, 5/8" grade 5's holding those to the truck frame. I'm considering that frame reinforcement- :-D Oh, plus with my outriggers behind the cab, then the crane...the length of frame from rear of crane base to tandem...

    Winch rebuild problem...help

I was just trying to take apart a blown up winch and gave up after pounding the be-jesus out of them and having them not move. It was prolly better to keep all the parts in one lump anyway-

    M35A3 Wheels

M1075, I got my two and they were the only two the guy had ever come across. Charged me like he knew they were uncommom too...eh, oh well. I did stumble over a member in TX that had one but that's been 2yrs now.

    Cranes

I'm at 10,020 lbs on the tandems and 7980 lbs on the front axle with my near 4,500 lbs of crane added. Yep, that's 18,000 lbs total. I switched from the stock 900x20's front to 11" wide 'A3 wheels with 12.5R 20 Conti's on it to up the front tire rating. I also like the look of the wider front...

    2.5/ 5 ton wheel question

On the wheels with the 10 hole center still on...the center hole for the wheel runs about the same diameter as the center bolt circle on the deuce lugs, about 8-3/4" so accessing the lugs behind them *shouldn't* be too difficult but will be on a limited angle. Also keep in mind this type of...

    Deuce U-joint size

Front driveshaft and jackshaft between the tandems are 1410's. Jackshaft between tranny and T-case, and T-case and front tandem are the next larger size. I believe 1550 or 1610's. They have the bolt in U-joint caps and look a lot heavier than the 1410's.

    Cranes

I use mine probably twice a week and don't know how I managed without it. -well, yes I do...I risked life and limb and put a beating on my poor John Deere too or winched stuff up in between trees. This is soooo nice- Oh, that's an M977 Light Duty Cargo Unit from a HEMTT.

    broke my winch

Do yourself a favor (and that's meant for the masses, not just one person) cut 75' of cable off of the front winch. They come with around 200' or so and are usually stacked up to be a full spool. That only gives you one ply stacking beyond the spool then the second ply against the lower tie bar...

    Meats and Potatoes

I got valve stems from a local tire place that handled Agricultural wheel parts. The 'A3 wheels I put on the front of my crane truck have a larger stem hole than the typical OTR wheels. Plus the 'A3s have the CTIS which give them a massive pipe like stem into a block at the wheel. The Ag stems I...

So you want to go faster?

There's another brake option around but you'll have to figure out how to put the pump onto the multifuel or find out flow & pressure rates and if they're comparable. I have a 1160 CAT (pre 3208 but about the same) and used a Hydro-Max system. It's rated to 43,000 GVW, which obviously covers...

    run ins with law enforcement

Ahhh...Ft Meade. That was a fun day. Not really law enforcement but sort of- I go there to pick up a generator for a buddy of mine in MS who I'll be meeting down south the next week. I have my big M715 (Velvet) with the Rockwells and 1100x 20 Xtra Grips on it. I pull in and get waved into an in...

    M35a2 in tank fuel pump

Be REALLY, REALLY careful pouring diesel fuel into a diesel engine to get it started or see if it runs. This 'gas' engine trick can spin your diesel to the moon rpm wise...in a matter of seconds. Diesels run on the amount of metered fuel. So a slosh of it down its throat may be 3 seconds worth...

    Deuce to be sacrificed....unless

DO IT! It's not the really that difficult a job...just everything is really heavy. I left it set up so that I could roll the tandems out from under the truck then pull one off and roll it back under by itself. Hanging the set of front springs for the new rear axle isn't difficult just takes a...

    6.2 GMC Engine swap

If you're in love with the idea of putting a 6.2 in the truck here is one way you may be able to do it- It gets mentioned now and then about the Peterson mag write up for the Chevy/ 3053A wirte up that I gave the guy all his notes for... *if* it's possible to get a 6.2 flywheel that will take...

    m715 brush truck rebuild

Good luck on your swap! I've done SBC/3053A, BBC/3053A and 6.2L Diesel/NV4500 into the 715's. Everything fits nice in them! :-D *if* you can, swap that brake booster over to the 715 too. That's always a nice bonus too-

    Question for off-road experts

Bjorn, the cargo may not have the shocks since it would have the weight of the bed to damped suspension movement where the tractor style is real light (so to speak) bobtail with only the frame weight and an uneven tire would stand more of a chance of getting a bounce if the weight's not there to...
