Skinny, just measured the frame rail (and almost got bit by a black widow in the process): 27.75" at the narrowest. So no way a 37 will fit unless its hanging down farther than the frame. Its too bad, because I was thinking of building something to mount one up in there.
Cool plates Wrex!
I finished up with the replacement of the harmonic balancer and some other maintenance stuff. Now I'm ready to head out to Gorman Ca (Hungry valley OHV park) for the 4 wheel parts customer appreciation run tomorrow morning.
I bought the Front Upper Shackle Hanger kit from Off Road Design earlier this year. Finally got it installed! The rear of the front springs were hitting the frame, and the passenger side was riding on the frame a lot. The old bushings were cracked but still in place. The install was pretty...
Got the FUSH kit all installed and new spring bushings in the front too. Just a few more things to finish up in order to make it to the 4 wheel parts customer appreciation run in Gorman on sun.
Got the front end back together over the weekend. The original u-joints were freezing up, so they got replaced. While I had it apart I replaced all the seals and the spindle and wheel bearings. Next up is the front upper shackle hanger kit, longer shackles and new spring bushings.
I have another desert trip about 70 miles east of that location the weekend of the 26th. Won't be able to do both, but maybe I can stop by on the way out there or the way home. (That is if the rally's on the weekend of the 26th of course.)
I found the binding problem- the 28 year old u-joint with no grease fitting. What a great idea! I'm actually surprised that it lasted that long. Oh well, I'll be replacing it with better ones and cleaning up everything in while I have it all apart.
P.S. I hate the new photo uploader. For some...
Installed some new longer front brake lines. Going to replace the rear too. And I found that there is something binding in the steering, so now I have to find out what's causing that. Good times.
Let me make an argument for the optima batteries. I once ran the truck out of fuel right after I filled the tank up. The truck was running close to a minute from the remaining fuel in the filter/pumps/lines. I started the truck after refueling and it immediately sputtered and died. It took...
It towed my 84 Trans Am with an auto transport trailer. I was actually surprised with how well it did climbing a hill. Almost as fast as it climbs the hill without any load. Ha ha.
Yeah and with the price it's best to use what you got until that doesn't work any more. Ha ha. I had to replace the rear 6TL when it just died and refused to take a charge, and then a year later the front battery when it started leaking on me. So the mod was mostly from necessity.
Thanks. I'm going to have to figure out how to route it to exit somewhere just in front of the rear axle, but I don't really like the pipe outside of the frame. This is the part that will test my creativity. Ha ha. So what did you think of the power difference? Was it well worth it?
