Hey, Hotrod.
What about the panel between the doors at window level? Seems like a tricky place to insert a large solid panel. Perhaps an additional window frame with safety glass?
Don't forget you can squeeze an Air Conditioner in there somewhere with the additional space. Like one of these http://www.rdac.com/Pages/product_pages/units_pages/1600_unit.html
The MERDOC pattern was to be applied at the unit level on a seasonal basis with the local earth color being changed to match the local colors and then the greens changed as the seasons changed. The black was there to create false shadows.
The system is more maintenance intensive, but clearly...
Looks good so far. What's your plan for the floor of the rear? Does it need a tunnel there or access points for getting to the transfer box? Also, how does spreading the front of the aft cab section affect clearance on the doors and the pillars?
Yeah, foot space is kind of key. The guys in back won't have space to put feet under the seats in front.
I'd like to find some engineering drawings of the cab in plan form and elevation form. That way I can make some better engineering schemes.
Patiently waiting on the pics.
Looking at that, I have to wonder why the US Army never made some like that as Artillery Tractors? Space in back for ammo, space up front in the cab for the section of cannon cockers.
If I'm not mistaken that's an example of MERDC camo. That varied the earth tone to match local conditions. Looks like he has a different pattern bed too.

We were both thinking on the same tack it seems. I'd been knocking the idea around, you'd started putting it into action. I figured I needed to see how it would look first before I really thought about doing it. I don't have as much space or gear to do it so what I buy has to be for a good...
There must be some other boots that could be used from normal civilian applications? There certainly must be some nice butyl rubber boots that'd work just fine.
I have to find a good swap for my M813A1 first. ideally I want to get some money out of it too so I can fix my blasted drive way. Digging out a 4 ton armored car that was bogged down so much that my 5 Ton couldn't drag it out was time consuming. (all it did was spin the tires and dig itself in...
My willingness to muck/customize vehicles is proportional to how many there are out there or how many were made. There seems like so many plane jane deuces running around now that tweaking the odd one isn't a big deal. As I said however, those M36's are rare. Seems like there's more LWB 5 tons...
The commercial bunk would be a bit clunky looking. One of my thoughts with the crewcab setup is that there would be a bit of room back there, I suspect, for an after market air conditioner. I've looked at my 5 ton and the standard cab just doesn't have the space for it all. A crew cab with two...
Well heck. I missed a bunch of you guys then. I knew where to find Mike form Mississippi because he posted pics on the MV list. That post has a number of their trucks with G177 tires mounted instead of NDCs. They look pretty sharp too. Ron, you had your M819 parked up next to the M54 with the...
Thing is, a trailer seems to make more sense for the towing of one of my vehicles. Easier loading. I'd like to keep the bed space to some degree for getting things from the hardware store (a load of bricks say). If I need to carry anything longer, I can just use the trailer. I've thought about...
Well, I'm starting to think that I want to downgrade from my M813 to a deuce. I figure I can swap with someone out there that wants to upgrade plus get a bit of cash for other projects. The M813 just seems like too much truck for me. I get it out, get used to it a bit more on the road but still...
What have people used for sound/heat insulation in their deuces and 5 tons? I'm trying to get my M813 a bit more quiet for when I start to use it more.
Any preference for panels vs spray on foams? Did the bedliner material help?
What about boots for around the shifters and levers?
I've seen G177's on Deuces and 5 Tons in Service at our one of our Ga ANG armories. Looks good too. At some point I want to get a set of G177s for what ever truck I have at the time I can afford to replace the NDCCs. Too many projects, not enough cash. :shakehead:
