I built a hitch for my Duece a couple of months ago. Works great. I think I made it a little stronger than needed, but overkill is good in this situation. By the way the straps in the pictures were only to hold the hitch in place while I drilled eight holes.
I think people are afraid to come and talk to me about my truck, as long as they aren't complaining I like to answer questions about it and even take them for a ride.
I dressed up from head to toe and parked myself under the duece and proceeded to drill eight holes. What fun, I was covered with chips, as my son handed me the small drill for a pilot holes and then the bolts, not looking forward to it ever again. Actually building the hitch was pretty easy...
I built mine a couple of weeks ago, it is 24.25 inches from the ground to the bottom of the receiver hole and I dropped the hitch only 7 inches from the frame. It probably would have been easier to just go out and buy a hitch, but I was determined to build one myself. Thanks Todd
Goodyear 11.00-20, G188. I had Michelin 11.00-20's but some were dry rotted and these were a great price. I saved two of the best Michelin's for two extra spare tires.
My new to me, cargo cover. No rips or wear marks and it actually keeps the rain out. I think it makes the truck look better, now all I need is a winch. Some people think I should have duals on the rear again, but that costs a lot for four more tires like mine. If I can find some pretty cheap...
I had plenty of room to remove the axle shaft, cleaned up the hub, greased the bearings and cleaned the wheel, installed new seals and small piece of cork in the keyway. Now it's ready to go, would've taken pictures but my hands were a little dirty. Thanks Todd
I have my Duece parked so I have only 38 inches on the drivers side and am wondering what length the rear axle shaft is on that side, I need to replace the wheel seals. If it's any longer I will have to move to a bigger area. Thanks Todd
