What is the best engine to have in a 76 deuce?

torque is not a function of displacement. i'm glad you got a good score on an 8.3. good luck.

What is the best engine to have in a 76 deuce?

it seems as though you are implying that the 5.9 wouldn't be a large upgrade from the MF. if that's the case, then apparently you don't have much experience with a 5.9. this won't be as easy as you believe it to be. while i haven't measured a 6ct, i can tell you that the 6bt is not much...

sweet! nice work, Clinton!! i was reading through to then end so i could ask about 'kitted' parts. do you have a dump hoist setup for a 105 bed? PM on it's way...

What is the best engine to have in a 76 deuce?

yes. all of these motors are, or are used in, industrial applications, which means that they have, or can have, an SAE engine adapter: 6bta / 6bt dt360 perkins 354 4bta / 4bt Isuzu 6 or 4 Ferd 7.3 PSD DD 4-53T Ferd 534 Cheby 427 Y Cheby 305 V6 as far as transmissions, nhdiesel is right on the...

What is the best engine to have in a 76 deuce?

off the top of my head, in order: 6bta, 6bt, dt360, perkins 354, 4bta, Isuzu 6 or 4, Ferd 7.3 PSD, DD 4-53T, Ferd 534, Cheby 427 Y, Cheby 305 V6, Ferd/Cheby/Dodge big block, Ford 300 I6, Dodge small block, Cheby small block .... any of them are better candidates for "long distance...

3200 rpm governor springs are like 100 bux.

    engine alternatives for the deuce?

not without moving the transfer. you'll also want to switch to 12V - there won't be any point of keeping the 24V as you'll have to run the ECM, FICM, TCM, etc. on 12V. the only thing left on 24V is the lighting, and that's IF you can rebuild the starter to 24V.

    Ouverson vs. Detroit

go w/ Ouversons - they are waaaaayy better quality and material than the detroits. plus, they can be upgraded if you ever upgrade the shafts. also, you can get 3 ouversons plus lockout hubs for the front for the same price as 2 ARBs. now, i don't know how they behave in a tandem-axle setup...

this is my design: even w/ lift blocks, i have zero axle wrap. [thumbzup]

Deuce vs. 79,800 lb rig: Fail

if the deuce was sliding with the single line, what makes you think that a double line would have made a difference? as the OP noted, it would have only pulled him closer at a slower speed. unless you meant that the static line was anchored at a location other than the deuce, right...?

max HP out of a 465 multi fuel?

so i inadvertantly deleted my responding post... anyway Lovin, the short story was that i agreed w/ your assessment and that no one wants to spend the money on making the MF compete w/ a current or later designed diesel. my experience w/ turning up the fuel: turbocator install i can...

max HP out of a 465 multi fuel?

yes - necessary to get the air in the injection chamber hot enough. lately, the newer the diesel, the lower the compression ratios seem to be going. 16-17.5:1 is the norm, lower 16's seems to be the latest target. the MF CR is so high in order to create a temp that will auto-ignite just about...

max HP out of a 465 multi fuel?

my experience w/ turning up the fuel: turbocator install i can indeed get it up to and over 1300°F;though, as noted it takes so long to get there that i usually only notice it when i'm driving up an interstate hill and remember to look at the guage. it probably takes 30+ seconds to get to...

max HP out of a 465 multi fuel?

Lovin', the problem with the MF motor is the high compression ratio (22:1). it's as hard and harder to get reliable power out of it as it is from your older IDI Ford (~21:1??). it's been talked about many times here before: a big power MF will have lower compression improved HG improved...

    engine alternatives for the deuce?

no, it's not 'made like that' and it isn't so straight-forward: there is some re-drilling of a couple of studs that needs to be done in order to rotate a chunk. also, if you rotate a chunk w/out rotating the housing as well, then you'll be running on the 'back-side' of the pinion gears which...

    Updating the PS install

i didn't see that on the 'site. ...except it's being used for something way outside of it's intended use. basically, your whole steering system is founded upon a 5/8" shank.

    Second Gear

Billy, you have described my truck's transmission shifting characteristics perfectly: occassionally it'll go into second good, but usually it won't, whether you start in 1st or 2nd, stopped or rolling, hi-rpm or low.... whatever. the real PITA for me is when i have to start from a dead-stop...
