Do a search for "bobbed deuce". There's tons of them already done up, and some are for sale. Idaho motor pool will do all of the work for you for like $2K, including an M101 bed attached.
It's actually easy to do with stock parts and a little know-how.
Please if you do decide to do this...
Cool man! Can't wait to see it when it's all done.
Mechanically I think they are great trucks...superior in many critical ways to the A2s. However, the CTIS and that hood/headlight arrangement just doesn't work for me.
I would *love* to get that auto tranny from an A3 in an A2 behind a...
It's too tight in there to do it on the truck...I would drop the PTO off and do it right. It's not that big of a deal. You will need to drain the transmission, so this is a good time to change the lube in the tranny.
You might as well also replace the rest of the seals on the PTO while you...
Interesting idea...hmm...make up a few of them and sell them man! I would buy one ready-made. :)
I'm assuming two of these tied together would need to be used for split-system trucks (mid 80s and up + all A3s).
As Scott said above, it's under that cover..you have a newer style IP. It looks like someone's already been in there, because the safety wire is missing from the 4 bolts that hold the cover down...
I use a big 1" impact wrench and a torque stick to get the torque right. They run about $75.00 each and are a lot less hassle than a torque wrench to get them just right (basically with a TS you hit the trigger on the impact until the socket stops moving and you're done)...
Take out your thermostat and put it in boiling water to make sure it's opening up all the way. They do wear out over time...
I bet getting it dipped/rodded will make a difference too.
Please accept my sincerest condolences regarding the death of your brother. 38 is far too young.
This is a great build, and you are saving a great old truck! I think that dedicating this build to your brother is a great way to preserve his memory, especially if you intend to show the truck...
A little high...seen them go for about $750 or so (Multifuel). OD Iron sells them for $740.20. Still expensive.
Radiators for gassers are even more expensive (but you can use a MF one from what I'm told).
Take good care of your radiators! When they go, they are pricey to replace.
RE: HYDRAULIC AND AIR/HYDRAULIC BRAKES PREVENTIVE MAINTENANC
I think postings need to be approved before they show up...one of the mods will get to it soon.
I'll second the Berg tires referral...great tires, great price, fast turnaround.
Send a PM to Mike at OD Iron for the wheels. He is "Devilman96" here on Steel Soldiers, or you can email him from the link on his site (www.odiron.com). Again, great product.
Wow...looks good! Still has the unit markings on the bumpers. Hopefully they are unmolested otherwise as well. Looks like new west coast mirrors and a hard top on the first one.
Did you get all the bows for the second?
