I was at Lakehurst and saw a lot of trucks that looked like they would be going to DRMO in the near future especially from what the National Guard guys there said. Also the site is not manned by a GL guy so it was a real pleasure working with the National Guard Soldiers who manned the site...
Bidding starts on the 19th of this month, are we in agreement who is going to be the bidder for each lot? I was ready to do this for lot 14 since 13 was already spoken for is this correct because I want to put in a bid if no other SS is funding this lot for the GB.
Thanks
Thanks for all the support brothers in arms, the thing towed very well just took time to move with the little duece that could. The black steel beam sticking up is my pole to wrap extra airline and light cable on to prevent it from tangling or falling off the trailer kinda like a spring pole on...
Convertor worked very well
Well this is the update to the convertor it successfully hauled a 14K lbs M 127 from Lakehurst New Jersey to Baltimore. It did take some time since on big hills I had to go to 3rd gear but I made 55 MPH at times on straight aways and had to let off down hills to keep...
RE: Fire truck update
As long as those cab supports don't get cut off for the donut eaters you cant go wrong painting it red. May God bless Texas and your fire company.
I towed my M200A1 with my Suburban it was a chore to be sure but the trailers are not too partiular to having a low pintal for towing as long as you are not hauling anything too heavy. Take along a High lift jack to lower the lunette down to your reciver mount pintal. The whole dolly should...
I am waiting to see how high these guys go but I bet GL 77008500 is lurking in the bidding. There are a lot of them so it will be interesting to see if any SS guy gets one...
Thanks for the posts and welcome to the site. You will find it a great place to hang out and learn a lot too. Your truck looks great and the crane you have is one I considered but went with the short one to allow the troop seats to remain functional with minimum fooling around. I have toyed...
I will sure be able to add to Ken's knowledge after I get home Lord willing with the M 127 from Jersey. I am hoping my longer homemade version will accually trailer better and give me a little more backing control. I have backed doubles a hundred feet and a triple about ten but that is back...
Great Shots thanks for posting them. Last Time I saw ones like that the turrets were being blown 200 feet in the air by our M1A1HC's. Of course there were lots of them in burning or burned out condition for the rest of the time spent there. Still alot of them in various vehicle graveyards...
Joe:
I am quite sure the M 197 replaced the 3 ton version 363. We used both the M 197 and M 354 convertors during the Desert Storm War because our Division did not have enough tractors and drivers to do a single lift move of the divisional equipment. The 354 is a two axle version with eight...
This is such a great site I am learning so much about the deuce that I love. Mine took 17 seconds to come up with ambiant air temp of 30 degrees F. I don't think that is too long especially since I treat my oil with lucas oil treatment and the remaining surface tension film should last 17...
There is an old habit of welders from all over the world in my travel and work that says if you are ever welding any galvanized metal make sure you drink milk before and after because it is supposed to aid in binding any excess Cadmium or Zinc in metal form that you may have enhailed.
Zinc is...
RE: Tractors 5 ton plusssss
That type of lateral mobiliity is what makes the Army a great place to spend your time. I have had many Soldiers that came to the Transportation Corps from Combat Arms MOS's and they made great NCO's for our drivers and mechanics. They used to have a detail program...
This is a single axle (as far as the photo shows) M 197 trailer convertor dolly that is towed by a deuce or prefferably a five ton and has a fifth wheel like a tractor that can hook to a semi trailer with a kingpin. See my post on the dolly convertor saga continues for close up pictures of my...
Since there are two lots 13 and 14 would we have enough folks to do both of them ? I would be in for two and since there are 13 in the lot that would leave 11 more and we could do the same deal as the other lot. I would put up the money on this lot. Let me know through this board and we might...
Thanks:
I have been welding since I was 12 years old, my first Jeep, and I know the deal on paint fumes that is why I weld outdoors almost exclusively. I also drink milk before and after welding just in case there was any galvanizing in the mix. When we painted the First Cav equipment in 1990...
