how hard do you drive it

Your tires are 33"s so if you were going 70mph you were pulling about 3250 rpms, not terrible but I wouldn't run that high very long.

how hard do you drive it

Filled the 86 1009 today, 16 mpg,not enough for me.Definitely see a regear and 700r4 upgrade in future.

how hard do you drive it

A 1008 with 456 gears with 31" tires will be at 3459 rpms at 70 mph.Thats close to redline...33s@3250 rpms,35s@3064 rpms. You have been here long enough to know our speedos are never correct, gps that baby at 70mph and check tach.

    Injection pump fuel inlet size?

I would use NPT to AN fittings on the fuel lines to the inj.pump. never worry about that one again.

Adding a Third Brake Light to M1009

A little bling action on the 1009s is kinda neat, especially with a really nice body. When I redo my 86 the body will be super straight and painted in a matte gloss paint. It will be camo though.I grew up in a body shop and if it wasn't straight it didn't get paint.Nice job on that third brake...

Another 700r4, plus a turbo addition

Thanks,I like your posts and like the fact you are very familiar with the cucvs and willing to work on them fairly. When I get ready to regear my 1009 and go 700r4 you will be who I call.I recently stopped at two local shops looking to get estimates on regearing my 1009 and both shops said they...

Second opinion on my loss of power diagnosis please!

Sound advice from welpro, but I would think IP pump rebuild seeing how it starts well when cold. And only has problems when warm/hot.Have you tried the cold water dumped on IP when warm/hot?To see if it starts better,if it starts better, would suggest bad rotor in IP.

    Glow plug question

Very good ?,I have been debating same thing.Maybe run 4-8 ga wire from 24v power to a a circuit breaker or sufficient fusible link, then to GP solenoid then to 24v GPs.Wondering if our GP solenoids will work with this set up? If we go 24v GPs,It will still pull GP power from both batts.instead of...

    Weekend Trip with CUCV

I agree with all above on electric issues,on power loss issues either fuel/air filters.Or bad lift pump,my older 1009 would run ,start and drive at speeds of 70mph with no lift pump I would sometimes forget to switch pump on.(it was elect.pump) I have read our inj.pumps are capable of pulling...

    M1009 Stalling while driving

You didn't mention miles on your 1009,but I would think its time for IP overhaul.

Need members honest opinions of value for my m1009

You forgot pictures of brake and fuel pedals,I would want compression test and oil pressure readings also. But your 1009 looks to be worth at least 4K.

Thanks tim292stro forgot about batt. heaters, added to my list. And jhowder8 something overlooked sometimes is batt.cable size and condition,my first 1009 suffered cold weather start problems and I was ignorant of these issues,It was my first diesel and cucv, after a lot of reading here I learned a...

    M1009 Stalling while driving

I have read that the cold water cure on the IP is a sign of bad rotor in the IP.
