If you are looking for an easier, cheaper route. There is a threaded plug in top of water pump you can take out and thread probe into. The Humvee crossovers are nice to have because of extra ports.Incase you want to add a sensor for an electric fan,or a sacrificial anode. My cucvs are daily drivers...
I cant begin to advise you on your electronic situation, but will tell you that's not your starter solenoid. Its for your glowplugs.Your best bet is to use the search function, upper right of page. You can find anything you want to know about these trucks, and a bunch you might not want to know.
Was just looking again and wondered why that 1009 looked familiar, went to a auction site and checked my watch list. That truck was listed on egay a while back, miliage was listed at less than 50k,rebuilt trans. It topped out at 2,550$ and bids died off.Looks like a nice solid truck,I would go...
I kinda like the wix #24770 head and filter# 33005,The head unit has 2 inputs and 2 outputs, makes it easier to add accessories like pressure gauges and such.Head unit is about 33$ and filter is about 21$ at Summit.
One thing to note,if paying a premium price for a low miles cucv, do everything you can to verify miles are correct.Sometimes just googleing the vin # will tell you a lot.
Sounds like you have a good handle on situation,I would also drop tank to clean and inspect filter sock or maybe cam-scope it.And when doing spin-on filter add a fuel pressure gauge.Really helps diagnose fuel issues.
And also remember the speedos are normally off too.Until I got familiar with mine I relied on my GPS for actual miles traveled! If the speedo is off the odometer is off !
Where else can you find a full size 4wd Diesel vehicle that's capable of 18-22 mpg,has a huge cool factor, and is simple enough to actually work on with out hooking it up to a computer? You didn't mention mileage on the 1009,I recently purchased one with 38,900 miles advertised for 3,800$ only to...
Added a 1/0 ga. ground cable from frame to ground strip.Mine was missing. 4 ga ground from drivers alt to frame.Installed tach, but need the connector for tach.drive on back of gen1,is this something I can buy at parts store?
Ever since re-wiring my manual only glowplug push button switch to the light blue wire and then to ground my wait lite also stays on till cold start solenoid kicks idle down.Since card was in-op,I cut light blue wire and simply tied switch to it.
Best way to start is top of cucv page CUCV wiki, then sticky cucv helpful threads,I strongly advise the DogHead starter relay upgrade,I almost lost my first cucv because I didn't know about it.I was also overwhelmed by my first cucv, now that I know more from bad experiances,I am much more...
Im sorry if it sounded like that,no offense intended,I am no expert I mess up a lot.Actually the 1008 is my dream truck, but I drive about 85 miles per day for work so I drive 1009s for the MPG factor.I have 2 now. Please don't let me discourage you.
If you have to pay a mechanic to work on a cucv you may have been better off with a civy truck. These trucks are awesome but require plenty of work. The 1008s have 4.56 gears so the taller the tire the better.Welcome to the site.Lots of great info here.Use the search tool whenever you can.
Thanks everyone, vac.lines are good and have good readings everywhere, trans looks new,was just wondering if there was a quick visual check to determine whether gas or diesel. How much should I expect to pay for a gov. swap?My 85 1009 has a deep pan and no drain plug. The current 86 Im working on...
Tested vac. pump its good.replaced modulator it was bad, shifts really smoothed out.But still shifted kinda high in rpms.Adjusted vac.reg.valve on IP all the way towards firewall still shifts a bit high in rpm range, thats why I was Wondering if its a gasser TH400.Do I need a governor swap.
