Worked on the 86 1009 today, new GP solenoid and wired push button setup.DogHead relay mod.Starter support bracket was hanging from block so got that properly attached to starter,K&N air filter. Also spotted a missing bracket on pwr.steering pump.Installed a fuse in fuse block for brake lights so...
What are the ill effects of having the small orange wire attached to the 12v feed post on the solenoid? Its a 1009, manual only GP truck.I drove it like this for about 35k.
I really envy you guys out west!Congrats on the 33s,and the doghead starter relay mod. There is nothing worse than slamming your drivers door and having your starter take off on its own.Thats how it happened on mine.
If you scroll to the top you can use search for 1009 wont start,or scroll down to bottom and view similar threads.Tons of good info. on this subject, and easy to find.
I ran into this a few years ago,I would get 18-22 mpg in summer but it would drop to 15-16 mpg in winter. My thermo-stat was stuck open, switched out and winter mpg came back up.Something else my Dad taught me was to test gauge before install.Boil a pan of water and dip probe in,water boils around...
I cant speak for the 1008 crowd,But Im more than comfortable driving my 1009 at 75 plus mph,if brakes, tires and susp.are up to snuff.Thats with GPS not speedo. The 1009s really have good brakes and susp.My 85 1009 has 33x10.5 and its sweet spot is 65mph,the 86 1009 I just bought and have only...
Thanks,Is there anything wrong with the way its currently wired? I have been under the truck and under the hood but have not made it under the dash yet.
My most recent 1009 has manual glowplug activation, its wired to the pos.post on GP solenoid and the neg. post on solenoid with push button in between. This does not seem right .If I cant find light blue wire can I run ground to push button then to ground on solenoid? Which would be best?
If you search cucv starter runaway you will want to make sure its been done.Lots of horror stories, mine included,It doesn't happen to all of the cucvs but if it does you will wish it hadn't.
75mph 4.56 gears+31" tires=3706rpms.You gonna try it? LOL. With 3.73 you would be at 3032rpms.The 3.08 1009 will be spinning about 2500 rpms. And for every 1" in tire height increase you can decrease rpms by about 60 rpms.
