Is there an easy way to tell if you have a diesel TH400 or a gasser TH400?My new to me 86 1009 shifts a bit high even with vacuum valve regulator turned all the way towards firewall.
Maybe speedo cable or gear?On my 85 1009 if it got below -10 it would howl at a certain mph.Scared the heck out of me a few times.Sounded like gears stripping, but not metal gears more like plastic.
Today, on new to me 86 1009 oil & filter change.Rotella T6 and 2qt.oilfilter.Changed out 31" tires to 33" tires.I really forgot how heavy these tires and wheels are,Ill be sore tomorrow.
I once bought an ash tray assembly for a CUCV on line,it had a sticker on it that said.FOD with a large red circle and slash acrossed it. Meaning No FOD.Its an Airforce mechanic saying for no Foreign Object Debris.
That's a good thing to have.I would try the coolant additive first. Our radiators not only cool the coolant but also the engine oil and trans. fluid. If the additive doesn't help try increasing fluid capacity of trans. and engine oil.Deep trans pan and larger oil filter may help.A trans.temp gauge...
With your gears and tires you are spinning around 2200 rpms at 60 and 2400 at 65.Not really way to high,I would try a coolant additive like Water Wetter or Purple Ice first, they claim 20-22 degree drop in temps.I would deff. add a trans cooler and trans temp. gauge. The trans. might be running...
Summit Racing,Sunpro Styleline 2" analog, mech. gauges,50-70% off.I already have these but might order another set for the next one.10.50 a gauge is hard to pass up.When I bought my first set they were 20-30$ per gauge. The boost/vacuum gauge I use to check vac.pump,vac.regulator and vacuum...
I have to post again, dont want to deal with the unlucky # on my last post.My newer 1009 is much more solid. And is going to get much nicer due to my education gained from ownership of #1 1009.I feel better having 667 posts, better than 666. Sorry Im already having enough bad luck!
I noticed your trans.pan looks just like the one on my newest 1009,drainplug and all,do you know if its still a HD th-400? Im gonna take some measurements of pan tomorrow to see if its the deep pan.The drainplug will make it really nice when changing fluid and filter.
86 1009.vac. modulator leaking fluid onto front driveshaft,hard late shifts.Replaced with A.Z.#mv100,shifts softened up but still shifted late.Adjusted vac.regulator on I.P. towards firewall.Much better now.Also it has a factory trans.pan with a drainplug in it,appears factory.My 85 1009 has no...
