Regardless of year or miles on a cucv I will always do the doghead relay.Just to be safe.It about killed my love for these trucks when I had runaway starter a few years ago.Of course unless its been converted to 12volt.And I already have the parts, after my first 1009 I kinda keep doubles on...
Nothing wrong with a well maintained 208,but the the 241 has 2.72 gearing vs 2.61 for the 208. 241 has an oil pump to feed top of case also. And if offroading a lot,241 aftermarket parts are more available. If you go with an old 241 I would install new oil pump, just to be sure.

I also run Optima red tops in my 1009,and mine must have been lemons, the first year they were fine, after that as soon as it got cold out no good. Both alts. were charging good.Im gonna try yellow tops next since I have an optima battery box now,if they don't hold up Im done with Optima.

If looking for the best battery this one looks pretty good.Braille battery group size 34,lithium ion,1,265 amps at 32 degrees. For a small amount of $999 each. For a group 31 size its $1499 to 2,949.Crazy! Couldn't find any cca on the the group 31 size but I can only imagine the cca,s would go up...
I had a 93 Olds that had 2-3 bleed screws to eliminate air pockets,I saved them.It was front wheel drive cutlass supreme.Worked well maybe check the yards to plumb in.
I thought about using that port to tie a tanks style block heater into, then I read some where else it is prone to air pockets.Got me thinking, what if you moved cold start sending unit to front of motor and tied left and right rear head together with a crossover if it would help to keep heads...
