It would indeed be nice to drop $1300 with shipping for a nice new engine from Bill Watson, but that is not an option for me. It's definitely worth the effort for me to rebuild my mule's engine using a 2A042 long block - I will save $900+ and enjoy building my own engine which will be as-new...
Several companies offer rebuilt or NOS engines...
Bill Watson - $1100 http://www.m274mule.com/home.html
Military Mules of America - $1700 http://www.mechanicalmulesofamerica.com/index.html
B.T.W. - it's the 2A042 you want... the A032 series is different and won't work. The 2A042 genset...
I see Saturn has original military filter kits listed... That may be the way to go if there isn't an easy source for the o-ring only.
Bjorn - That o-ring doesn't have an NSN number, only a part number - 10935481 which is part of filter kit 5702776. How would I look up the spec for the o-ring...
I'm looking for the small square section o-rings that are under the bolt/washer that hold the secondary fuel filter canisters to the housing. They are not included with the (aftermarket) filters, and in all the threads discussing filter replacement I was surprised to find no mention of it...
My deuce, as well as all the deuces at Walker's, had the one long / one short cable. The short side was literally only about a foot long, and was connected with a bolt to the sheet metal of the rear cab wall, at one of the soft top hooks... I sure wouldn't want to jump a dead truck with a...
That's hilarious! Seems that some of his fellow posters didn't get the joke, though...
...Thanks to the moderators here for keeping this site from being like that. Sometimes I've felt that moderating actions have been heavy handed and the cuss-filter is set too high, but seeing something like...
According to Wikipedia, "pot metal" typically contains 0.1% iron. I don't know if that's enough to cause the alloy to be noticeably magnetic, but I find it hard to believe Memphis would steer you wrong.

There's certainly more than two... My 6TLs were made by US Battery at their plant in Corona, CA.
http://www.usbattery.com/pages/12vmilitary.htm
US Battery is one of the largest makers of lead-acid batteries in the US, and they're the #1 supplier of 6TLs to the military (That's what they told...
I got a NOS decon kit on eBay, ad said it was "empty" ...but it wasn't! I've got a full one, and I feel better knowing that I can decontaminate my truck after a NBC attack.

...Must not get cold enough in GA? This can happen in any vehicle... Thermal shock. My old Honda's windshield has a crack in it from last winter, it got down to 9 degrees here. I got called to be at work at 5am, started the car, then scraped the frost off the glass. Got in, turned the...
My deuce has similar holes in the front bumper, but not the rear... It has been speculated that the holes were for "convoy ahead" and "convoy follows" signs. I don't know for sure, but it's the best explanation I've heard yet.

Kenny, are you sure those batteries are junk? I remember some posts a while back about restoring batteries... flushing them out, (maybe using some kind of chemical?) and refilling with fresh acid. I plan to find that thread and try it if I end up with any dead ones around here.

Hmm. Mine is definitely 1-1/4", I measured it before I bought the hose. The raised ring near the bottom of the metal slobber tube would actually make it 1-1/2".... So a 1-1/4" hose slides on the tube, pushes over the bump and secures with a hose clamp above the bump. Your truck must be...
I've noticed that the LED just barely glows on mine. Even with the unit installed under the pass. seat, it's hard to see it's working unless I shade the LED with my hand. I have four Solargizers, and I've checked two of them (yes, connected correctly)... same result. In fact, if the solar...
I wouldn't worry... Seems to me high engine compartment air temperature would affect coolant temps before it affected oil temps... and would simply cause your electric fan to turn on. Unless your oil cooler is clogged, I can't imagine that you're burning up your oil if your coolant is at...
I believe it's just because the Multifuel engine is much smaller than a modern OTR truck engine... Compare at 478 c.i. (2600 rpm) vs. a Detroit Diesel Series 60 at 855 c.i. (1800 rpm).
Some older, smaller diesels (yet still bigger than the MF) that were the standard OTR truck engines of their...
Pics of the pump are on page 7 of this thread. It's a WWII surplus aircraft hydraulic pump. Pretty stout looking gear pump unit, it's rated at 3.5 gpm @ 600 psi. with 1" inlet and outlet. I'd say it's totally overkill. If your oil gets so sold that this pump won't move it, then you need a...
Wow, that garage unit is just what I need. Standard ShelterLogic garages use the 9 oz fabric covers... how much extra did it cost you to get that heavy duty fabric? What model is that? I've looked at carport / shelter units and figured they wouldn't last... between the desert heat, sun and...
I'll order a pump or two with intact threads and report my findings... It may be a month or so because I'm saving my pennies to get new tires for my deuce.
Calling threads "non-standard" is a misnomer, really... To call them "uncommon" would be more correct. The tap and die section in my...
