It would be interesting to sit around and tell winch stories (I didn't say wench). One can be very creative with several snatch blocks too, but one should never loose sight of the forces that are involved, is something lets go.

Of all the miles that I drove my two trucks (still have them), I never could find anyone that knew much about the transmission. I didn't figure out how to adjust the transmission throttle linkabe either. Your obiviously well versed in the transmissions functions.

If its a hydraulic fitting, it will be JIC. Use a try square on the male end - you'll be able to see that its not the 45 degree fitting.
SAE fittings that size are rare.

I think your safe, at 5000#. You can get it on a 16' trailer. Your allowed 4' overhang, no questions asked. I'd load it backwards. If you have ramps, you can load it with a "come-along".

I ran an M211 for years - been from southern Alberta to the Beach (Prudhoe Bay), several times. In down shifting from 3rd to 2nd, the engine would over-rev for a second. I learned to back off the throttle @ the shift point. Always thought it would blow, but it never did.
I ran points @ .018...
The winch can be a helpful and powerful tool. The time to learn about it is before you need it, or have the emergency.
BE CAREFUll when working with the winch... ALWAYS! It is not forgiving. You or somebody can get wound up in it & spoil more then your weekend.
I never like to have slack in...
License Plate Light
Different states are different, & it depends on just how much they have to do, at the time of the inspection. But here, Authorities tend to be relieved that a truck like a Deuce has a license, in the first place, much less a light on it. Besides, in the summer, we don't even...
RE: m601 reply
I got my M37 in 1970 & was the 2nd civilian owner after it was surplused from Eilson AFB. There was an OD painted hydrolic jack in the box under the driver's seat - what I always thought was an 8 ton version. The handles & Budd lug wrench with a hex bar for it & a steel tube...
I don't think you will have trouble hooking it with the military tractors, They were bobed off pretty close and also the frames were tapered off nice. That is not often the case with the highway transports. If the frame isn't tapered off & the trailer has a goose neck in the frame, there can be...
The commercial Guy needs a sliding fifth wheel that goes back, as well. Even then, they might need to have the mud flap hangers that come all the way off. If he had one of those with the fixed flaps, they can hook on the landing gear when he turns. Either that or get somebody with a two axel...
That sounds like a good start for the winch, Especially with the 200" of line (if its good). As above, there is other stuff too, but you can acquire it as time goes on. that is half the fun. The actual cash value for that stuff is way up there.

Me niether, or that is what the screwdriver type, 1/2" drive socket, that is often used to adjust/assemble the joints on tie rods & drag links.

Hey Gimpy
What vehicle are you putting the heater in? It looks brand new. I'm looking for the South Wind version of that (Model "939J24") for my M35A2. I would like to replace the one that is there. I haven't been able to work on it yet, because a couple of other projects are cluttering up the...

M16TY is right. The winch is not operable under these conditions. Tranny has to be in neutral & that is your problem - my oversight. You need to take the load off it, safely, so you can get it into neutral again. When you do, it will want o roll off the mountain & you don't want to be under...
OK, OK - I'm DE-Moted back to Private. Sure - you can't use the winch either! How silly I am. I was having dinner, thinking about the problem and started to choke up when I realized the "slight" problem using the winch. All together my oversight!
Tom - Guess the winch is a mute point just now...
What's the matter with the winch? Got any trees around there? Run the line down inside the front bumper & back under the axels. Use the winch to pull it back & relieve the load. Having a winch allows some creative license. Jacking up the rear with a load on it can be a tall order - both axels...
