    M 105 Axle Swap

I 2nd the motion. The M101 was made for pickup sized vehicles. As for your question above, 10 ply tires are rated for 3000#, so unless you run duals, a 6000# axle would be adequate. However, a M105 with a 6000# axle and 235R x 16's , would look like a pearl onion on a banana split! Lee in Alaska

updated pics of my hemtt restoration

Great truck - Great Job! I see them all the time, running out to the Ranges at Ft Greeley. Next time I see one parked, I'm going to see if I can't get a "tour". I run an 8V92 in an old 4300 Binder, set at the standard 475 HP. Not bad for a farm truck. What is yours set at? Are you sure its...

where can I find a snatch block?

RE: snatch block There is a pair on Ebay now #180192934865. They will be adequate for your M 35. Two parts in your line, doubles your pull (rated capacity). The other trick is to use it so you can go around a corner with your line, and not snarl up your drum. Lee in Alaska

where can I find a snatch block?

Some good ones come up on Ebay, now and then. Ones that have half inch to 5/8"capacity go for around $100. I have seen some military ones, in there too. If the seller can get it in a Flate Rate Box, the shipping isn't bad. Look for one that has a zerk fitting for grease. Just remember.... The...

    FONTANA scrap yard run #4

Wow - sounds like fun, but Fontana is a little far South for me, even if its winter time there. But that's my idea of what "shopping" should be like! I need an engine coolant heater for an M 35, but I doubt they are likely to turn up in California. Does "Fontana" have a regular name of web site...

    Snow Picture

Hey Jeff You have the "jewelry" on the tires yet? You'll need her that way till along in April sometime! All that snow has been known to collapse in the hoods and cab roofs - in spite of the hard tops. I'm sure you keep a shovel handy! Regards Lee in Alaska

    Painting/Priming WITHOUT prior sandblasting???

RE: Re: Painting/Priming WITHOUT prior sandblasting??? 3M makes some abrasive wheels for drill motors that work very well. Much better the a wire wheel thing. The paint dosen't have to be completely removed to do a good job, if its tight to the metal. In the body shops the is some stuff called...

Annual Pilgramage North.... Military Vehicles and Deer

That is a swell outfit! How are you running the lights on your Jeep? Is that the standard military connector on your truck? Are you running add on lights for your Jeep? 24 volts? I always thought a Guy might as well have enough truck to get the job done. Lee in Alaska

cross country tool and sprae part list

The price the commercial carrier was going to charge, may seem like a lot, but doing it yourself won't be cheap. Each one of those States that you cross will want to sell you a permit (temporary license). I have lost touch, but I will guess that they will want $50 to $100 for each State...

Do you have a "LapTop". Motels will have terminals! You can keep us posted - or maybe use it to call for help. Lee in Alaska

cross country tool and sprae part list

What do you know about the truck? Is it roadworthy? Got brakes/license. You seen it yet? Sounds like a good trip. Take everything you can - that way, if you have it, you won't need it! I'd make sure I had a grease gun and start with a full service before you leave, especially the filters, and...

detroit locker in the rear axle(s)

The only thing better then one locker in a rear differential, is two lockers back there - for all conditions! I have run two lockers in a highway truck for many hundreds of thousands of miles, without looking back. Dry pavement, overweight, over sized loads, snow or ice or mud, - they work...

    Welding for dummies

The thing that the Welding Class will provide for you is the chance for concentrated practice. Mostly, welding skills require proper manipulation and dexterity. That is hard to get at the neighbors place. When practicing, in class, you will go through lots of materials. The most versital type of...

    Tire chains?

In mud, tundra, bog, not to mention snow & ice, chains are the way to go. Its a lot nicer to put them on, Before your stuck! There are lots of places, where I live, where there is nothing to tie a winch line too. Military tires with the non directional tread are notorious for lack of traction...

    electric winch on deuce

The size of the line that comes on an electric winch should be all the information needed. The idea of a two & a half ton truck hanging on 3/8" line is laughable! Lee in Alaska
