When it happened to me, it was the air pack. It was at a stop sign - had to use low range to get off the road. That is a neat trick, bleeding off the air with the left glad hand.
I have rebuild hydro-vacs, but they are hard to find Kits for. I replaced the whole unit.

RE: Anyone tow with their Deuce?
Hi Philip
I guess the bottom line is that you can tow about anything you want (as you can see above), from slow to not very fast, and be sure to get there. Nothing about them, was made to go very fast. They "shine" as off road vehicles, with "some" highway...
Different States are all different, but many of those signs before you get to the weigh station, have the Key word "ALL" trucks, etc. I would be absolutely certain to have with me, the registration and proof of insurance! Also the rest of the required gear that makes good scense, a fire...
I think they will be hard to hold, one upside down in another. Especially that high up on a deuce. But if you take the wheels off, won't it set better inside the other. As for tying them, I'm used to commercial equipment trailers that are set up for that sort of thing, and a Deuce bed is short...
On your crack, don't use brass on it. That is not a place for brass - it will fatigue in no time, and re-crack. It needs to be welded, with a backing plate inside, as large as is practical, so that it distributes the stress over a broad area.
Merry Christmas

RE: Pedal stroke
First Question: How did they get air in them? If you can't answer that, then its adjustment!
I agree that it is probably adjustment! Adjustment is commonly overlooked in all trucks that have juice brakes. You can try bleeding them, but I would start by a major adjustment...
Yes, the plastic air brake line tubing is a great product. The copper can corrode from both the inside as well as on the outside. Plus, copper tubing work hardens/fatigues and breaks. The plastic tubing seems to be inert to most chemicals found around vehicles, is not much subject to abrasion...
Was the one from Autozone, a 24 volt starter? As normal preventive maintance goes, it wouldn't hurt to clean all those terminals & on all the cables. A small stainless steel tooth brush works well for cleaning the ends as well as the threads. I use a little dialectric grease on the terminal ends...
RE: Re: Alcohol evaporator & grill cover?
The tubing, is just copper tubing. Its either 1/8" or 3/16", without looking. The early ones used a pint mason jar. The newer ones have a plastic jar - same shape as the glass one. The plastic would probably be safer when running on gravel. A rock could...
Nice cup holder, but where's the light? How do you find it in the dark? It should be a red light , of course, so it doesn't affect your night vision. Obiviously an oversight.

RE: Re: RE: Govt liquidation & hillary?
If you think our Govt. is scarry, just look around the world and take your pick. In spite of all that, there are a lot of good dedicated Folks in Govt. Service.

Also, when its bitter cold - don't shut it off, for any reason. Even it you have heaters and all that. If your staying over night. let it run. Not at an idle - pull that throttle out to about 1100, or 1200 RPM. Even at today's prices for fuel, having a toasty warm running truck is well worth...
You want 75/90 GL in all the gear boxes/rear ends. Steering too, or the equivellant. You can do that before you get here. I run it year round. Make it a point to seal up the air leaks - a pencil sized hole will cancel your heaters. Rocket tape is good around the windlows, etc. Naturally, you...
"Sometime you take the Trip & sometimes, the Trip takes you".
You did it right! You had a swell Outfit. You'll have a swell truck too, when you have a chance to tinker with it some.

What is the name on the heater, Is it a South Wind? What model? The M37 had them in a box on the left fender. If its Gas, the fuel metering regulator would have to be changed, probbly as well as the controls, and maybe the igniter. Ther was a lot different about them. My guess is, since you...
Seems like the engine coolant heater (hot water only) has only one speed. The personal heater (hot air only), has two speeds - high & low. The engine heater works on convection and it does quite well at it. It puts out boiling coolant & the various "bubbles"of steam rise rapidly and forces the...
