    Torque rod/dogbone mod and removal

How did you get the upper centers out? I'm having a **** of a time.

Any tips on removing upper torque rods?

Well that explains it then. I'm at the point of poisoning myself with the smell of burnt rubber.... LOL

Any tips on removing upper torque rods?

I also did the same with the lowers and the upper at the axle(Tm's show this). There's nothing to hit with the uppers besides the threaded end/nut on the end where you have to take the leaf spring shackle off. The Tm's say to use a 2" rod and 10lb sledge on the nut/threaded end after evening up...

Any tips on removing upper torque rods?

Sadly I'm not that indepth with tooling. No welder or torch yet in my inventory, that would be take it to the shop territory at this point. Propane torch is as close as I have currently. Good point though. Thanks.

Any tips on removing upper torque rods?

Saw one suggestion in there that might help. Guess I have to buy a Porta power now and give that a shot. I've tried 2lb sledge, heat,12lb sledge, comealong with heat and 12lb sledge. This sucker does not want to move! If the porta power doesn't work I guess I'm at the mercy of a shop. I was...

Any tips on removing upper torque rods?

Thanks, did prior, there's nothing really specific to the uppers. I have no problem with the lowers, the uppers do not want to budge, heating and with a 12 pound sledge!

    Minnesota MV laws

Vehicle has to be 20 years old to get collector plates in MN. I just registered my 98 M35A3, I surely tried. I didn't get Y plates either. They registered it under 1 ton plates. Works for me. Your options with a vehicle not eligible for collector plates is Y plates or 1 ton plates. My local...

Any tips on removing upper torque rods?

Tried it on the tire side, will it work better on the bushing side?

Any tips on removing upper torque rods?

Read the Tm's , bought a 12 pound sledge(two pounds over the TM and still no joy) Cannot loosen the uppers. The lowers are easy following the TM pound on the bottom of the bracket, the Uppers don't want to move with a bar and sledge. Any suggestions?

What did you do to your deuce this week?

A dogbone came completely off causing the axle to move back and forth enough that the little shackle on the front of the leaf spring crushed the brake line. It also wasted the other two bushings on the axle. So now I get to replace 3 dogbones and a brake line. Connected come along to front...

Design flaws? Torque rod, split rims?

Thought I did somewhere? I would start with a cage in front of the brake line should a a single torque bar fail. To take the impact of a leaf spring swinging forward under all known torque. Just look at the area and imagine it happening to you on the road. You can post all you want about did you...

Design flaws? Torque rod, split rims?

Do you even know what happened?

Design flaws? Torque rod, split rims?

But it is a design fall. Every other truck has a two point system for the leaf spring, the M35 has a reversed spring system which has no attachment points except the middle allowing the axle to pivot with the failure of one single bolt. Sorry you and the other 3 or 4 don't like me, but that's...

Design flaws? Torque rod, split rims?

None of these trucks were lifted or posititoned. They were all driven to the lot. All except one were driven OFF the lot also with no problems.

Design flaws? Torque rod, split rims?

There's no sign of forklifts considering the truck was driven 80 miles home with no hitch except when I filled the expansion tank with 1 gallon of 50/50 anitfreeze. Nice you guys gang up when someon deflates your preconcieved notions.

Guess you didn't read the thread or the TM......

Design flaws? Torque rod, split rims?

WOW good deal. I can only hope or not you guys don't have the same failure when your brake line is crushed at the wrong time. GEEZus. Take a forking look if you have a duece and deduce what will happen if the bottom drivers side torque rod fails when you're bouncing around and drives the leaf...

Design flaws? Torque rod, split rims?

Then why did you give me a hard time about linking it? I'm not here to F with people, just find answers. Frankly I do believe there is animosity here. It shows. Poor design is what it is. It is a failure waiting to happen. No different than drilling, tapping the rod ends for a piece of metal...

Design flaws? Torque rod, split rims?

The design didn't depend on one single component. Don't try to play games. I made myself clear. It seems you two are trying to make me resort to yelling, screaming and posting bad words. Sorry drill instructors, just stating the facts of the matter. It's the reversed strut with o security on the...

Design flaws? Torque rod, split rims?

It was asked if I had a pic. I did and provided it. Why the obvious animosity from a couple of you guys?
