Chuck, TN doesn't require a CDL on anything that is not commercial. You can drive a 80,000lb 18-wheeler (air brakes and all) with a standard class D license as long as it's not commercial. I understand that other states are different though. The roads around here are packed this time of year...
My uncle is friends with a farm equipment dealer in Athens,AL. I talked to him today and he said if I could get them to his place he would stack them for me. I may go that route but my options are still open.
Alredneck, I'm open to that idea also. Shoot me a PM on how much you'd need to have.
I am in the "air brakes are better" crowd but there is one slight disadvatage to air brakes that hasn't been brought up. There is a small amount of lag time from the time you step on the pedal until the brakes activate. This is not a big problem but somebody used to hyd brakes will need to be...
Hmmm. I may have a use for 5 of them. I wonder how wide they would be if they are put on a M105 backwards (dish in)? I'm planning on building a tandem axle trailer with two M105 axles and was wanting to go with 16" to lower the deck height.
If you don't mind, PM me the contact info. ;)
Teresa did say they had a rented forklift of some kind but didn't want to do loadouts with it for fear they'd tear up the forklift and have to pay for damages because it's rented. I really don't care if they damage the trailer because one of them is pretty rough anyway (I only bought it for the...
Dave, we may could work that out but it all depends on if I could get them loaded.
I'm temped to bolt a pintle hitch on the back of one of them and pull doubles. I know that some people have tried this with bad results but there's a few that said it worked fine. I'm thinking that if I try...
I've bought two M105 trailers down at Redstone. The problem is, I was planning on stacking one on the other and pulling them home but Teresa says that their loader is broken down and they can't stack them. I've got a tractor trailer I could carry to get them both on but that seems way overkill...
The rear output is only single speed in one direction. You will not have the same speeds as the front output.
As has already been said, go with a t-case PTO. That gives you 5-foward speeds and one reverse.
All that being said and having torn a few winches apart, I think you can swap the...
I would love to have some pics of the axle/suspension setup. I've got a pair of M105s that I'm going to pull the axles out of to build a trailer kind of like yours. I'm trying to figure out how to build the suspension.
Chuck, that's kind of what I was thinking.
The rod could be bent or (if it still has a sprag case) there could be a problem with the t-case or linkage between it and the trans.
Ok, one more question and I'll be done ;-). I happened to pick up a 5-ton PTO today. After looking at the PTO and the pics in this thread, it looks as if the output will still come out of the PTO on the upper shaft even with the 5-ton parts. If that is true, it still won't solve the clearance...
Most things that look like cast but are in a high stress application are usually forged. I would bet they are forged.
You can also take a cutting torch to them if you can without ruining them. If you can cut them with a torch, they are forged.
Welding a forging also has it's problems but it...
I don't know. My paypal draws out of my bank account. I believe I'd rather have somebody run up a big CC bill than to drain my bank account. I know they say you're still protected with your bank account but it would seem to be easier to get the CC straightened out (because you owe them money)...
David, I knew about the earlier dropside trucks but had forgotten about it. I guess I was more referring to the "05" lot trucks though. I think all of the dropside 05s had the "40" designator. Am I right?
Just make sure your VIN starts with "05**-*****" or lower. All of the "05" trucks were contracted in 1970 (I think) and I've never seen a "05" truck that was newer than a 1973.
I might have to look into getting one if it will run a welder. I honestly didn't think it would. I've been looking at a portable gas welder but I've already got a spare buzz box so buying a 003 should be alot cheaper than the civilain package setup.
I do have a Lincoln 300/300 tig welder I...
