Not to beat a dead horse, but I thought that one of the stipulations of GL advertising on Steel Soldiers in the upper-left-hand corner of the webpage was that they were going to ACTIVELY PROVIDE a person who would be here on a regular basis, to address problems a bit more than just "looking into...
You're doing great! Makes me wanna look forward to repainting my rig!
Oh, and those tally marks aren't kills. They are the tally for the number of quarts of oil the driver had to add to the crankcase since the last official oil change.
Wives are never right. Deny everything. Counter-accuse.
And F the scrapyard idea. Post for sale ads here, we all want the stuff saved, let the scrap man get rich off Hondas and Volvos.
RE: M56
Here's the numbers, M60 series vs. M1 Abrams. Numbers are approximate, and depend slightly on vehicle version and cargo setup.
M-60 series tanks
---------------------
Weight: 54 tons
Length: 22 feet
Width: 12 feet
Height: 11 feet
M-1 Abrams series
----------------------
Weight: 67...
RE: M56
See my above comment on the size of the M60 vs. the Abrams. The Abrams is not as "big" or high as the M48/M60 series was, but the Abrams is longer, and some of its armor is denser (i.e. depleted uranium) so the Abrams does weigh more, despite being slightly shorter than the M60 series.
A M1008 should have no problem towing a M116 3/4-ton generator trailer. Buy one without the gensets, install a couple ramps in the back, drive your ATV on and haul butt down the road!
Perhaps you can graft it in with some creative sheet metal modifications, but you will be missing some gauges that are important to the deuce's operation. The question that begs to be answered is , "why?"
$350 is a good price for a 1/4 ton trailer, I'd snag it. The part you need aren't going to be expensive.
JeePanels Plus's website has been down for a long time. I know they are still in business, just a phone mail-order company now. Anyone have the phone number?
:ditto: The M416 has plenty of spare parts floating around, and data plates, lights, and body panels are out there from the above sources. About the only parts I can think of that are difficult to find without tearing down another junk trailer, are the axle, the frame (though Bensinger does...
Not that I can think of. There is a civvy alternative that is similar - it's an articulated 4x4 called the Coot. They are still made today, but the older ones from the 1960s are pretty flatbed-like and boxy.
RE: Re: RE: What is this????
Armored vehicles don't get surplussed out, except as scrap. Only way you'll get one is:
1. You start your own museum.
2. You enlist, and get to drive one (but you can't keep it).
3. Build your own, one piece at a time, like Johnny Cash.
4. The surplus system gets...
