    I took off the tubes and installed the hose and tubes at the same time. There is only like 1/4 to 1/2 inch in between.

    I would put a freeze plug heater in before I messed with a inline unit.. loose too much heat in the hoses.

    And "pumping" the gas wont do a thing in a diesel. There is no accelerator pump like a gas engine with a carb. take that POS filter out and put on a spin on.

    if there is room on the back side use a bolt and a washer to hold it together. I have done that many times on old GM manifolds in my shops that brake off a ear.

    I just put a hose barb and put a little bit of vac line on there. a lot of guys do that because the vent line can suck the fluid out sometimes
