I got it started and drove it around for a while. It started super the rest of the day. I will find out at about 0530 if that was the issue, if not, my M1008 will get me around tomorrow.....
I disagree too, the four I have lived with were all nice and quiet. The old flat tooth gear transfer cases in the Kaiser M715s would really talk to you at speed. Speed in one of those starts at about 35 mph. :-D
I would find a reputable rebuilder and go that route. We have two shops here in Salina that just do fantastic work. Not really cheap, but you do not have to worry about tolerance differences chewing up your flywheel. Just my mind's thoughts and experiences...
Does anybody know if that drain fitting at the bottom of the fuel block works like the bleeder at the top of the fuel block? My M1009 has been leaking down over night. Starts immediately all day, let it set over night and is fires then dies, then it takes some cranking to fire again. While...
It is a press fit on the crankshaft. Normall the pulley bolts are removed and those holes are used to pull the balancer. You will need to remove the large center bolt and washer, right in the center of the crank. Be sure to use a puller with a pivot button so you do not mess the threads in the...
My 2003 Cummins used to stay pretty clear, relatively speaking. Not like a gas engine, but not like a dipstick stuck in black paint either. Four gallons of oil every 3,000 miles... The oil on my M1008 turns black, but the first 1000 miles or so it still looks dark brown, clear enough to see the...
He was a little overkill, I thought... Just towing a Dakota Pickup and some personal belongings. The trailer had electric brakes with a controller in the M1009 plus a battery on board the trailer for auto braking if disconnected. He was all about being safe, nothing wrong with that. Glen
It can be done, I saw one yesterday. When he contacts me again, I will find out what brand. He took off his pintle hitch, but now advises it will fit and he will be putting it back on. Glen
I mentioned it and wrote it down on paper for him. I gave him my user name and my address, invited him to come join us. Told him this was the most comprehensive shop manual I had ever seen for military vehicles. ;-)
It is hard to drive and take photo of your truck driving in the snow at the same time, unless you have a sidekick along...... worse than that, I cannot find the photo I took from the inside of my truck while driving in the falling snow...
Not wanting to cause him any grief or embarassment, cannot imagine what would do that, I XXed out his name. He selected a very nice coin, a nice robust 2" coin.
They grew in popularity during Desert Storm and the coin makers business exploded when they found the law enforcement market. I...
and we may have a new member soon.....
Bud was not along today, I was at work. I was out on patrol and found a really nice looking M-1009 parked on the Pilot Truck Stop or Bosselman's Truck Plaza lot. I snapped a couple of photos, because this one was backwards. It was towing a red Dodge Dakota...
You can pull that kind of thing eay enough. 50 in my opinion is a great towing speed for the 4.56 gear ratio. Beyond that with a load is pushing the 6.2 pretty hard. I drive mine 50-55 empty, occasionaally 60. We ran it 65 for 400 miles and it was dripping oil on the ground when we got there. I...
Along that same line, the wear on the steering wheel, brake and accelerator pedal are give aways for miles driven. I have seen 40,000 mile trucks that about had that groove in the steering wheel worn flush... 140,000 or 240,000... I just got hosed on a Blazer, it is a nice enough truck, but it...
They can pull a fairly heavy load, the problem is stopping the load. They just do not weigh enough and have enough contact surface. It is pretty easy to push the rear axle around with a heavy trailer.
I have towed some loads that were way over the truck's ratings. It get the heavy loads...
