    M1009 starting problems

I put a new set in my M1008 and it fired right up at -7 F, no block heater of any kind and parked outside. I fully expected to be calling for a ride or getting my wife up to run me to work. I thought that was pretty impressive for a 22 year old glow plug diesel. Glen

Getting paint off of glass and tires?

Brake fluid will clean them right up, makes them look like new ones, provided they are not badly weather checked. A buddy used to clean his tires all the time with brake fluid, before they made tire dressing. He had a 1957 Napco converted Chevy Suburban, the tires looked better than the rest of...

    M1009 starting problems

If you run across a Dodge/Cummins that does not start, do not spray any starting fluids in the intake unless you are absolutely sure the intake grids are non-functional. They use a toaster like grid to heat the air, not a glow plug in the head. The resulting flashback, explosion could be...

Bud Boy and I did our good deed today!

Along that line, we were coming back from deer hunting in western Ellsworth County one evening and there was a man about 65ish walking east on Old US 40 toward Salina. We stopped and asked him if he needed help, his story was that his car had broken down and he just needed a ride to Salina. We...

Bud Boy and I did our good deed today!

I have no idea how many people I pulled out or dug around their tires with a shovel so they could drive out. The general public must be brain dead. I started passing on helping the guys with Mustangs, Camaros, Firebirds, low rider pickups etc... Sure pulled out a slug of vehicles and a lot of...

    CUCV Winch?

On the rear I used a bracket for the license plate. Removed the pintle hitch and ran the cable through the bumper behind the license plate. A spring between the cable eye and license plate held the plate on. It was really clean, super handy and I wish I had it back! Glen

    CUCV Winch?

We fabbed this front winch mount, had it to do over, I would use the new fabric cable and a standard fairlead instead of cable and the roller fairlead. That would let the fairlead be flush with the bumper. It was very nice to have, but I found I used the rear one ten times as often. Glen

    paying GL for MV ????

They should change that as they cut down the amount of time that you have to pay. A wire/bank transfer or credit card are about the only ways to get the money there fast enough now. The first one they charge to the credit card. I thought I would have a payment option, so I did not back the card...

Bud Boy and I did our good deed today!

We pulled out a Swift Trucking Volvo Tractor yesterday. The driver had been bob tailing and tried to park in a parking lot off of Broadway. He got the steering axle and the front drivers in the driveway, then when the rear driver hit the plow berm, he had two sets spinning in the air. The rear...

    M1009 Recovery Trip

Mine had not been started since February 24th. It could easily be dry Jefferson City had 70 Blazers parked there in February. There are two left and they both have the rust package. They had been assigned to the Month National Guard. I think the. Chevys are going out and Hummers are...

    M1009 Recovery Trip

Mine either has a lift pump issue or a leaking seal in the Injection pump. It will run great all day, fire right up. Let it sit overnight though and it is a bear to start. I was hoping for something simple like a leaking return line, no such luck. I will replace the lift pump first, then have...

    M1009 Recovery Trip

Nothing quite like the deep breath and exhale in your ear while trying to sleep routine.... or the Shepherd squeak in the middle of the night when he wants to go out and check for rabbits. Buddy has the shortest coat, but he is the one that gets out of bed because he gets too hot. We were in...

    M1009 Recovery Trip

160 miles or so, if you are driving to Tonganoxie, you will drive right by Salina on Interstate 70. If you let me know I would be glad to drive up there. Maybe we could get a mini rally going.... I doubt you are coming down in your M1008 though.

    Jefferson City, MO

Mike was top flight with me too. My first trip to pick up a vehicle. He showed me some other goodies in the lot and gave me what history he knew. He is pretty sharp and definitely wants to help you out. He said at one time they had 70 M1009s lined up to sell, now he is down to two. I would not...

    M1009 Recovery Trip

Thanks for the compliments! I always wanted a M1009 and wish I had got after it sooner. It really is a nice truck. I am pretty impressed with the way it drives. It plows through this deep snow very easily. It does not have to low geared power that the M1008 does, but it seems really comfortable...

    M1009 Recovery Trip

I returned the new ones today. It started this morning and it was 16 degrees. I just went out and drove it a few minutes ago, it is supposed to get down to 5 tonight with a 30 mph wind. That should be a nasty cold test in the morning. I wish it had a block heater or pan heater!

    M1009 Recovery Trip

Actually, I have three white Shepherds. I have a sweet old girl we call Missy. She was a pound pup after she tore up a really nice house. For the firt 8 month or so, she destroyed anything with foam in it. Shoes, bras, pillows, stuffed animals, sofas, chairs... one day she chewed the antenna off...

    M1009 Recovery Trip

Took the boys for a ride, engaged 4x4 and it is quiet and pulls great. The boys seemed to enjoy it, but the small bucket is hard for either one to sit on. 105 pound Shepherds on four paws in an area that small is compressing their stability base. They can set there, but find themselves trying to...
