I have had this happen also right after putting my truck back on the road.
Highly suggest NOT going to NAPA. The generator is around $200!!!!!! Pull it off and take it to a good rebuild shop in your area. I was really impressed with my rebuild. They cleaned it in some kinda machine and it...
Ditto, ditto, ditto.
I use to get rid of perfectly good equipment to get it out of my warehouse cause I was loosing storage space or tired of having it around and waiting for disposition. Pencil whipped condition codes can be quite common.
RE: M578 update
Just a couple of hours ago I was just relating a story about a 578 during ODS. The tracks were different from the 113's and by following the 578 tracks I was able to find my unit since we had a unit attached to us that was the only 578 in the area.
You're 578 looks real...
First off if the data plate says the NSN ends in -1616, you need a new data plate. A w/w data plate should say -1617. According to your info, the military also considered this a w/w (ie -1617 NSN truck).
Here's what I got:

No Potomac or Back Creek. Just walked in the door from sourthern MA at a conference that was very last minute. Computer internet capability crapped out on my laptop so had to wait til I got home.

You could always do a search on this website in forums for VIN that was started by some mind reader named medlog who is also known as Carnac the Great. For some reason he is able to use his mental powers to find vehicle histories. LOL
All you have to do is follow the directions on the...
I absolutely agree. They did the same thing on my 3/4 ton trailer. The numbers are on the tires as plain as day today as they were the day they put it on. Can't get it off. They also did the canvas tarp the same way which actually p/o's me off even more than the tires for obvious reasons...
Lee,
If you are an American Citizen and you've lived at the same address for any length of time, it should be fairly simple. You have to pay for the item with a credit card and once you win you need to be sure to give them a good address. The address must be a known street address (no post...
RE: sf97
They screwed up the manufacturing date on mine and I had to send back my original. You paid to have a correct SF97 issued to you. I emailed them to notify them it was on the way back before I sent it though. Ensure you use FEDEX, UPS, or Certified US Mail with return receipt. They...
The registration number is, on rare occasions, changed on military vehicles. Consider the registration number as a license plate number. The VIN is permanent and the one on the frame is, imho, the legal one to go with. I don't put zero's in front because the database doesn't like it and when...
RE: Vin #
I think it is a long shot that it was used by them in ODS. Might have been prep'd for shipment but most of the units in the 18th Airborne Corps were converted to HMMWV (as were most units that went up "north").
Couple scenarios could have happened.
A. Could be just what is...
Yes it will be. You need to get the correct paperwork from GL the first time and have them correct it to ensure you have no problems registering it and selling it at a later date.
Here;s the information on this truck. Should be under the VIN thread:

Tank and Automotive Command is the key point of contact you want to hit if you want a demilled static display item for the city, American Legion, VFW, etc. You will have to transport and get someone to certify the demil. They provide a list of things that must be accomplished for the demil.
