Don't forget the price paid for the tires though. As long as the ones that come on the vehicle are functional, you may want to hold off on tires until you get other issues straight and if the budget holds.

If you're planning on hauling "stuff" then M1008. Ditto on planning to use a M101 trailer. Plan on just driving back and fourth to work and back and only occasionally carrying somewhat lighter loads or rare trailer use and not max'ing out the trailer--M1009. M1009 is faster, better mileage...

RE: Pic Mine have the same cracks. May want to pull the interior inspection plate and check for rust in the bottom center. Should clean that area up real well and spray paint it with rust proofing paint.

If you can find a decent tailgate at a junk yard it should be fairly inexpensive but good luck finding a decent one. Most of them have the same touble, rust in the bottom center. Hand crank is best to buy a new one imho. I did the pick, pull, and reuse from junk and went through 3 real quick...
