After driving around for the day yesterday I am certain I’ll be keeping my exhaust brake setup as it is, with the exception of changing the target gear to 5th most likely.
For those of you that like how the brake works now, in the new configuration you really aren’t losing that, it just works...
Understood, but the way the exhaust brake works after the mod is way more useful for my intended use of the truck. Given that the mode with the cruise set does not have the aggressive downshift, I will probably have the target gear set to 5th and see how that goes in the other two modes.
I...
Continual running of a motor at or near its red line isn’t good. Will these motors stand up to it? Sure, but I can assure you if you take two identical motors and run one a very high percentage of the time at or near its max governed rpm and the other at 1400-1800 for its life, the latter is...
Everyone has their preferences. I vastly prefer the way the brake works now with the changes. I also prefer not having it aggressively downshift to 3rd, which makes sense for the speeds the military drives the trucks, but doesn't for a truck that now can cruise with the rest of the traffic on...
Because it's unintelligent and way too aggressive. If you're in high mountain passes on the freeway going 65mph, if you engage the exhaust brake it's going to aggressively downshift to 3rd and you'll be risking throwing a rod and be travelling at 30 mph when all you wanted was to coast down the...
I don't think there is TC lockup on 1st or 2nd, so no exhaust brake functionality. There is a setting in the ECM for the max RPM the trans should try to maintain on downshifts. By default it set at 2800. Yes, the trans will aggressively shift to the target gear.
Yes the default is 3rd. I want to change it to 5th or 6th. You can always downshift with the key pad if you want a lower gear and the trans isn't yet wanting to downshift.
I know this is the Eco Hubs thread, but since we had some lengthy discussion here about my feelings that an exhaust brake was critical for mountain driving when you have Eco Hubs installed I thought I would post a follow up. So, back to the exhaust brake conversation. Since I have now installed...
Okay, installed the new braided stainless line and vent hose yesterday. Keep in mind that the air line listed here is being used with the most current PacBrake part# C10382 which has the 1/8" MPT threaded inlet on the bottom rather than on the side like the original unit. This configuration uses...
Okay, had the truck weighted today. As it sits currently it weighs 18,540 lbs. Given that this weight is less all the interior storage, center seat/seat belt, the roughly 50lbs decrease per aluminum wheel, troop seating and canvass cover/ bows/hardware, the curb weight as delivered from BAE...
Those are the same ones in my wheels. I was told the rubber beadlocks were standard with the aluminum wheels, but from this thread it sounds like they are an older style that has been replaced with the metal one that bolts together.
I'm willing to bet the high pinion rear diff easily adds 200-300 lbs, maybe more. There is a lot of iron in that housing. Anyway, at some point I'll get it on the scales. I have removed a fair amount of weight too. All the cab interior storage, middle seat, troop seats etc.
No, just giving the info off of the plate on the door, but it has to be pretty close or they would be creating a situation where the truck could be overloaded since it states what the GVWR is. If the curb weight is actually only 17,500 and someone loads it to it rated max, you would be putting...
The curb weight of my 2008 M1078 A1R is 19,598, GVWR is 24,598, rear axle is rated at 11,158, so I would guess the rear springs in an M1078 A1R are the same as a 1079.
Anyone have a line on a supplier for the braided stainless air line to the actuator on the Pacbrake? I'm not aware of anyone locally to make one for me so, I'll be searching the web for a generic replacement, but hoping someone has already found the part. Thanks
