    emergency brake

Those who learn operate a vehicle with three pedals are a rapidly fading group. The trucks coming out today with power everything and automated engine / trans. combos are the future. Until the "new" future. When the sun drops a big E.M.P. on us and all the electronic "toys" go dead, my old...

    painting over carc

Interesting. I've only ever seen spare parts etc on these in normal red rustproofing primer...this was something else?

Did you lift your bed when you added 16.00's?

In a way, I'm maybe thinking I shouldn't mess with it, as the original engineers knew what they were doing in terms of calculating frame flex, distribution of tension/stress/weight/etc and I don't...

    painting over carc

Thanks for the additional info! I can see how 20+ years later someone would misremember that as cyanide, etc...

    emergency brake

I honestly thought it was kinda funny even when it happened. I generally respond to stressful or taxing situations with laughter and this was no exception. In this case, it wasn't a date but I did have umpteen people watching the spectacle. After I instinctively just killed the engine after...

Did you lift your bed when you added 16.00's?

So in other words, this would not work on a wrecker variant, at least without substantial re-engineering of other things as well?

Fuel and Oil Pressure only working halfway....

While I'm new to actually crawling around on M939s in person, what are the odds that the "warning" switch was for something else the truck had in the field?

Did you lift your bed when you added 16.00's?

Interesting thread! I'm curious, has anyone tried this on an M936 wrecker, and if so, what all is involved in lifting the bed on one of those?

    painting over carc

Re: the hazards of CARC paint, I also heard a story from someone who worked at BMY in the early '90s building M939A2s: Apparently, another byproduct of CARC fumes is cyanide... Nasty stuff...Makes lead-based paint look tame or so I'm told.

5 ton questions help a newbie out

Thinking of cutting up an M939 for the axles? Most people would hate me, but I've considered the same for a particular project I have in mind.

5 ton questions help a newbie out

That exact truck? What a small world. I literally know of lots of stories like that, though.

    emergency brake

Re: parked in gear, I don't think this one was left in gear, although, I have seen it happen often. The first time I ever drove a stick shift (it wasn't that long ago actually) it was in an USMC M813A1. It had been left parked in gear, and being it was the first time I ever drove a manual I...

    emergency brake

Dead thread revival I know, but I'm having a similar situation on a truck, but in this case it's been sitting for 6 years so I suspect rust is the culprit. I didn't want to really just rip on it, or start shooting things with WD40 or Corrosion Block or PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench before I knew...

Welcome to Steel Soldiers! I'm planning on doing just the above, but with a 5 ton.

Is there a way to adjust my M813 door "forward"?

Finally, a thread on these Rube-Goldberg doors!

    M923a2 estimated fuel mileage?

I second that. If you were to elect to bob one, I would highly suggest getting an M923A2 or M931A2 or something for that. In fact, the 931 tractors are about the right frame length already for a bob without cutting the frame. The XLWBs are kind of rare anyway (only about 500 ever built) and...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

While not to tell you what to do with your truck, the 927's are kinda rare as it is. I myself am considering getting a 927/8 and building something living situation wise on the stock bed...inside the existing bed dropsides. Shoot me a PM if you like and I'd be happy to pass along my ideas...
