    73 mph M1008

Stock M1008 doing 70+ mph, not going to happen, period. It runs out of gear plain and simple. Your speedo probably has an issue. I would verify with GPS or go old school with mile markers on the highway. My speedo will occasionally go 10mph faster on the highway. The needle sweeps back and...

    High Volume Power Steering Pump

Have you run a hydro winch before? Sure it only affects the steering but it gets old trying to pull cable while turning the wheel only to realize you can't turn both. Plus the factory system barely has enough power to satisfy two demands without a winch in the system. A high flow pump will do...

Few questions on installing a Fm100 fuel filter and electric fuel pump

Hand primer can be bought through any Stanadyne dealer, NAPA also sells accessories for the FM100 unit. Same exact filter unit, just under another name brand, probably WIX. I got everything through the dieselstore.com Tygon fuel hose (which is not rated for extreme heat so be careful where you...

    High Volume Power Steering Pump

Just remember that trying to pull cable while turning the tires and holding the brakes is a huge demand, the winch always gets the short straw. Pretty much every good hydro setup uses an aux pump. I hope it works out.

    High Volume Power Steering Pump

I'm assuming you are going to use the winch as self recovery and not a utility winch? I owned a MM hydro winch on a Wrangler and it worked awesome. Only problem was that you lose line pull when you call for power assist. Everytime you turn the wheel the winch stops pulling. Just the way the...

    Detroit locker question

Pull the cover, take a picture, post up... Plus a little gear lube change never hurt anybody :)

Few questions on installing a Fm100 fuel filter and electric fuel pump

It makes a mess though, nowhere near as nice as the original box filter bleed. The petcocks with a built in nipple (totally did not type with a straight face) are very pricey and really the only way to do a clean bleed. That is why I installed the tygon translucent line. I fill both my filters...

Alaska cold weather power steering leaks. Have questions

This is funny, there is another thread with leaky power steering hoses which originates from the crimps and the suggestions are almost opposite. Everything in the PS/PB system are high pressure except for the one return line coming from the steering gear to the pump reservoir. I like the idea of...

    Detroit locker question

Jack up one tire and spin it by hand. If it feels like something is broken inside, it has a Detroit locker :)

    Hoses slowly becoming greasy

I had the same thing, I bought all of them on RockAuto pretty cheap. Everything fit well except one did not look exactly like the original, just required a minor tweak. Nothing like the oil cooler lines people have trouble with. I changed mine because for under $100, its cheap insurance to avoid...

Few questions on installing a Fm100 fuel filter and electric fuel pump

Are you aware that the housing already has a bleed port on it? Not sure if you know that since you are installing a petcock. I'm not sure if you would really need a bleeder with an electric pump. Maybe someone else can confirm that. The air may just push through into the IP then back to the...

    New to CUCV

That is awesome! I would consider myself a seasoned mechanic and not afraid to tear into an auto trans or do internal engine work. I personally would farm out my IP work to a Stanadyne dealer. Its one of those things where it pays to just let the expert do the work. I've R+R'd mine and even...

    New to CUCV

Subarus are awesome! I have an 07' Forester 5 speed, limited slip center and rear diffs, and last year with no TPS/TRAC/VSC stuff. That car goes better in snow with bald summer tires than most 4wd's I've owned. It always amazes me how well balanced that car drives and how easy it is to work on...

Black out light switch is when you want to drive around in stealth mode. When I stay stealth mode I mean incredibly loud diesel with no lights mode!

    New to CUCV

Congrats on the new Cuck Vee! It probably needs IP shaft seals which the kit is very cheap, the labor is not. I would recommend a decent reman'd IP unit. Now would be a good time to go through the fuel system and replace all the rubber lines and maybe upgrade the filter unit as well to protect...

Need help with unidentified noise please.

I agree but sometimes clamping or pressing only bends the yoke where a sharp smack tends to break it loose. The best method I've used is to do what you mention in a hydraulic press then hit the yoke with a hammer. Combines the best of both worlds but most don't have that equipment on hand. I...

Need help with unidentified noise please.

This works when the truck is new or down south out of the rust belt. Just how that shaft sits in the vice, strike the yoke.

Need help with unidentified noise please.

That is where Spicer injects liquid plastic to lock the ujoint in during manufacturing. You either have to put that in a press and watch stuff explode as they come out or heat up the plastic with a torch. Not microwave safe! Be sure to wear eye protection or maybe even a face shield. That...

Grinding when going into 4H and 4L

That is because you are going from 4H to 4L while moving which is always going to cause a small grinding if creeping along. Not really bad but certainly creeping is easier than at a full stop. If fully stopped, if you go to shift into 4L and you pause to long in the middle (N position), you are...

    6.5 in my 1028A3

Doh! Looks like you will be taking the trike to work. Don't drink and ride :) I guess the light at the end of the tunnel is that two piece rear seals suck period but boy are they easier to change!
