Now I'm thinking of maybe building the structure on I beams for skids? Thoughts? It would raise the height but I could use that to insulate between that and the cold steel bed floor.
In the meantime as soon as I get the truck, I can't wait to camp in the bed during the recovery.
What if I did aluminum frame? Stronger but lightweight?
I'm thinking my other option would be an M146 trailer, take off the 927 bed and put the M146 box on, ideas?
Another idea, somehow make it so the stock bows and cargo cover fit over the habitat so the truck looks stock. I have a line on a...
Keep us posted Ken! I saw your latest 4 updates on YouTube, great videos! Re: the 50 year old rubber, the 939's are more like only 25-25 years old, but yeah, I know what you mean. Still before some of us younger enthusiasts (like myself) were even born...
Think it'll be any easier of a fix this time? I've been following your videos of rebuilding the one motor on YouTube, lest I ever have to do this in the truck I have a line on ('84 M923).
Interesting! Not sure it'd be a permanent fix, but has anyone considered just building their own strainer out of, say, something plastic-like instead of steel which just rots out?
It would be interesting to know brand names, maybe brands to avoid. Can you tell us the other circumstances surrounding the failures? I'm a lawnmower-spark-plug mechanic myself still and have a lot to learn but I'm sure others might be able to pinpoint nuances.
TobyS, you bring up an interesting point. Re: the bathroom situation, many homes/cabins here in Fairbanks, AK and the surrounding actually lack flush toilets or indoor plumbing. From other living situations I've had I see it as a non issue and when I tell people this describing Fairbanks to...
Thanks for the reply! I should add that it does come with other various goodies, such as an M105 trailer, 7 decent spare tires, sand anchor for the winch, new red top Optima batteries, it's a hard top, cargo cover/bows, etc. I know where a M923 is I could have for 6500 but by the time I drive...
I'm sure this has been brought up before but in a search I didn't really find any really good results that deal with my kind of situation here, and if nothing else me asking again might help somebody else further down this life; I tried to make the first part of the title searchable/have major...
SnowTrac Nome, my way around that would be some buckets or custom made covers, but I can also see that putting them on and taking them off could get old quickly.
CsmDavis, there's an idea! Part of my thing is that I want a M927 or M928, and it want stock/unmodified, box built inside the existing bed. If I did that I'd get an M931 or M932 and tow, an M146 perhaps? That'd be my next option.
Part of me wants to do it in the 927 or 928 so I don't need...
