Need info on pipeline trucks...anyone familiar with them?

Yeah, I'm curious to see how the "Armstrong" manual steering is if I get this one, since as a first vehicle even after driving school I'll still be learning some nuances in the Deuce... My first experience driving a manual transmission, as well as the second vehicle I ever drove, was trying to...

Need info on pipeline trucks...anyone familiar with them?

Very interesting! Those are things I'll have to look for for sure! Did the data plates ever get swapped during rebuilds?

Need info on pipeline trucks...anyone familiar with them?

I'm really curious if "mine" (because it isn't at least not yet) was maybe a gasser, rebuilt in '79 with a multi fuel engine? What years, approximately, did the gassers get multi fuel engines?

Need info on pipeline trucks...anyone familiar with them?

Haha! If I don't end up with it, somebody should. Good to know that it's what's left of an earth boring truck, or at least had that stuff added to it. I'll still add screen shots for those who have never seen it:

Need info on pipeline trucks...anyone familiar with them?

So while perusing my local Craigslist last night I stumbled upon another Deuce. Of course I've already replied to the ad. I showed the ad and pictures to my roommate, another Steel Soldiers member who is also a Deuce owner, and they think it might be a pipeline truck. So...I'm trying to...

    ldy

I'm definitely curious about this too, as someone who may be daily driving a Deuce by this spring myself.

    Newbie from Watford City ND

Welcome to Steel Soldiers! Very nice truck! Glad to see you guys loving and enjoying the old girl; these trucks truly are like people in kind of a weird way, imagine the stories they could tell if they could talk!

Going to look at a '68 M35A2: What to look for/ to be prepared to fix, Newbie edition

Well, that one didn't pan out. BUT...I already found another. Ad claims it's a '79, though the bed doesn't look to be a dropside. Also has more of a Vietnam era paint scheme, the clay looking brown/almost red. Guy was going to bob it but never did, but it appears to come with four newer...

5ton and mods what makes a 5 ton

Agreed. Bob it, cab swap with something else, crew cab it, it's just not the same anymore. I like them stock but that's just me.

    The Deuce lives

That story got a slightly emotional reaction from me too!

    M47 Dump Project Is Home

That is AWESOME!! Glad to see you got it and not someone who would part it out; it looks too complete for that. Looks like it didn't come home under its own power; does it currently run/drive but you had it delivered for peace of mind, or does it need some mechanical help to get back on the...

looking at buying 1st deuce, have a question.

Can't help you there, being a newbie myself, but welcome to the site and the hobby nonetheless! I was just looking at a '68 M35A2 myself.

    Newbie from Evansville In.

Great truck! It has potential for sure! I'm presently looking into a '68 myself I stumbled upon on my local Craigslist.

    Assistance with Deuce mechanical unknowns

Oh, hey, Rosco, hello from Fairbanks! Funny I should see another member in this area, I'm going to look at an M35A2 this weekend, may pull the trigger if I can find a place to park it. Let me know if you ever want to get together.

Going to look at a '68 M35A2: What to look for/ to be prepared to fix, Newbie edition

One step closer, got directions to go look at the thing sometime. Also talked with DMV in my state to get answers to some titling questions I had. (It's actually easier than I thought to register a vehicle in this state!). Now to find a place to park the thing...

Going to look at a '68 M35A2: What to look for/ to be prepared to fix, Newbie edition

As far as Alaska winters, I wouldn't be driving it THIS winter; it will sit. Though part of the go look at it situation is that I need to do so before major freeze up, the truck has a block heater but is too far from the owner's house for an extension cord to reach, of course I need to see it...

Going to look at a '68 M35A2: What to look for/ to be prepared to fix, Newbie edition

Like the title says, I'm probably going to go look at a 1968 M35A2 in the next week or two. I'm admittedly a little on the excited side, but also on the slightly terrified side, "What am I getting myself into?" Some backstory: -I'm presently a college freshman who spent his high school...
