Hey wilkusmcrecon, hello from another Alaska member here! I'm in the same situation, would like to get myself a 5 ton soon but will probably actually start with a Deuce and move on up. I'm currently located in Fairbanks, let me know if you ever want to get together.

Jbulach, your 925A2 is an '88? Newest A1s I've seen were like '86 or '87 but I swear I've seen '86 A0s too (NHC250 Cummins engine with duals)

I've seen supposedly '87 A2s, but I'm not sure if that's true.

Also look on the Fairbanks Craigslist, A2s show up on there. I almost bought one a couple months ago.

I'm curious on the fording thing myself, as someone who plans to be getting dirty in the mud when I get one. As for cleaning, my understanding is go through everything with a grease gun before you go, then after you're done as well. Probably wouldn't hurt to change differential fluids, etc...

Funny thing, I just saw an old M275 today! Or at least what I think is one, could be an M35A2 sans bed. It's in rough shape sitting in a graveyard of other abandoned trucks but if I get a good, running Deuce (planning on it!) I'd consider trying to pick it up, for a parts truck if nothing...

Looks like a fun project! As it is, is it drivable/roadworthy enough to drive home under its own power?

DavidWymore, that's what I was hoping was the case; my situation may be similar, lots of quick hit and run errands to Fred Meyer/Walmart, etc.
