Long Distance Retrieval: The Hard Way

Read the stickies, everything you could possibly want to know about potential problems will be there. $400 to have a truck moved one thousand miles is cheap money, you'd be borderline special to not take him up on that. You have a chance of getting home unscathed without issue. Youtube videos...

Long Distance Retrieval: The Hard Way

This is cute... Congratulations on your success, do you want a cookie? No matter how smart you are, your recovery can range from awesome to fail. My truck shipped from GA to ME was $1300...boo hoo. How bad do you want it? If you are tight over $800, then find a buddy with a 1 ton and tow bar or...

Long Distance Retrieval: The Hard Way

Rent a one way truck and trailer. No water what you prepare for, you will run into something good or bad. Getting familia with the CUCV systems is best left at home and not on the side of the road needing to get home on a timeframe. Do you feel like dropping the tank to replace the flex lines...

    M1031 Governor control discussion

Every switch on mine was misadjusted which at the beginning was a big time consumer trying to troubleshoot the entire system. Any new M1031 user should FIRST adjust and ohm out the switches before doing anything else in the governor system. My second point to this post is...TWO FUSES??? I...

New M1010 CUCV, power steering Q's...

Aside from the pulling being an issue, a full locker will more than likely just stay engaged and cause no harm. Although a cheapo pocket locker may get angry and try to ratchet. Any type of LSD whether cone, gear, or clutch will try to spin internally. Depending on how much drag occurs, it may...

How do you figure no damage will occur? All the diff manufacturers that make LSD's specify not to install in a front axle with a disconnect. That is the same situation that would occur if a single hub was sticking. Say what you will but damage may occur not to mention a decent steering pull.

Going to look at a m1031. Does not start.

Junk really doesn't describe what you ran into. Even a complete derelict at that price point has some value if the driveline is still present.

    M1028A3 shocks

If you have stock springs, then the off the shelf 0-2" should fight fine with no issues.

    M1028A3 shocks

That is a cool M1031, not sure if I would want the dually but it's sweet! OK so IMO this thread is spiraling out of control and going to crash into the mountain. Go on Rockauto, put in 84' K30, then pick whatever brand of shock you want. AC Delco if you want OEM. Plenty of great aftermarket...

If one hub is sticking and you have a front LSD, the spiders and clutch packs may have been damaged. Just something to check. A sticking hub with an open diff although bad is not the end of the world, the spiders just rotate around each other and the opposite axle shafts rotates in reverse. Most...

BUY IT!!! The running gear alone is worth that. That doesn't even include the generator, PTO drive, rust free sheet metal, etc. The thing has a ton of aluminum bolted to the frame. A decent IP will set you back $500, figure anothe grand for incidentals, you would still be money ahead if the...

1st CUCV, 1985 M1009 New to site and testing

Great vehicle to learn on for a young technician. Everything is simple and a good starting point to learn fuel, electrical systems. Whatever I takes to keep adolescents away from video games! if he is into diesels, he will have plenty of work opportunity if he continues in the field. Whatever...

    M1028A3 shocks

I think you have been part of a hoax...I've never seen OEM shocks like that unless they were cheesy dealer add ons. Yes, a product of the earlier days. The only time you will see a factory air assist shock is typically on wagons or mini vans. You could go with an AC Delco shock as the closest...

M1009 Glow Plug Controller- Missing Capacitor

I've never seen a card up close and that photo really shows how simple they are internally. Basically everything but that logic chip I'm assuming is standard fare off the shelf stuff. Seems like they would be pretty simple to rebuild but that photo reveals corrosion on everything. I agree, go...

Loss of power going up hill

No smoke issues? Short of an engine integrity test with a compression reading, it sounds like your IP is dying or you have a restriction in the fuel system.

That would not be good for the front diff if the PO retained the LSD during the gear swap.
