    6 year old gasoline...

Gasoline in an IBC is not only dangerous, it's a huge DOT no-no. Anything over 100 gals is probably restricted to DOT hazardous material regulations. Old gas has volatile vapors, just like new has.

Why would they paint the registration number all over his truck? I thought they just painted them inside the door and on or under the hood. Don't they have standardized locations?

    Alternators alternative set up

I carry a spare on long trips. I kinda expect that is the norm, when your running a nearly 30 year old vehicle. All though, I know I can buy the $80 standard alt at any store, and simply use the internals in the old alts(isolated grounds).

    Alternators alternative set up

Sorry, I mentally overlooked that info because of this statement (I get a easier to get parts for system). I have never owned an M1010. Are those alternators common or are the parts more readily available than the AC Delco 27si? I have never had any trouble buying parts(locally or internet).

    Alternators alternative set up

What would you gain by doing that with an M1009? Why does the M1010 need the 24v for (that a M1008/09 doesn't)?

    Noob Glow Plug Question!

Wellman's self limiting plugs DO SWELL. Don't be fooled by advertising. These statements are based on real life experience. If you do not heed our advise, you to will learn from your own experience.

    my 24v mess

If you did not "register a reading", does that mean the meter did nothing(same as when you hold the two probes in your hands but do not touch them to anything? If so, them no, that's not good. They should have read 1-3 ohms, while touching the terminal of the GP and the hex(base/ground) with...

Year single pin NATO slave cable connectors were adopted?

If you see no rebuild parts data tags on the major components, then I would suggest your truck was never "depot rebuilt". Paint changed from semi-gloss OD, to CARC around 1985 and it was probably repainted around that time or after. Tires, well they could have all been changed out at anytime...
