'83 and A2 are mutually exclusive. It can't be both.
The difference is the engine and the presence of CTIS. A2's typically bring a premium of $2500-$4000 over a comparable A0 or A1.
'83 trucks were the A0 variant. NH250 and 11.00R20 tires.
My preference is the A0/A1 trucks, but I'm in the...
The sprag works just fine.... just use the clutch competently and don't roll backwards on takeoff.
If you're contemplating a t-case change to change gearing that's one thing. But if the primary motivator is to get away from the sprag, then it's a solution in search of a problem.
I had an M923A2 sandblasted to bare steel and repainted solid 383 green. It took 4 gallons of CARC.
if I were doing an entire truck 3 color camo, I'd start by doing the whole truck in green and then floating the brown and black on top of it via rattlecans.
So figure 4 gallons plus some black...
14's are getting scarce. I'd go with 395s or 16's . My preference is 16's on hemtt rims but 395s are much cheaper and work better on the stock 5ton combat rims.
In your position I'd go 395s.
But the odds of slaving someone's 14 liter Cummins in their 5ton are reasonably high. Hate to have a component in the system that'd melt in the attempt....
Unimproved surface pictured above. Towed vehicle is an XM818. Tow vehicle is a 1ton in low range four and manual transmission. Never spun a tire....
Edit to emphasize- this is an activity only done at a walking speed. Only done on private property or at the very worst only considered to get a...
The jeep JKU is rated to tow 3500lbs.
The M1102 is 1480lbs empty.
There is no issue other than hitch height. If your jeep is lifted, that's resolved.
We have a jeep JKU as well as an ECU trailer on an M1102 chassis. The ECU trailer contains a large generator and heater/AC. It's heavy...
Deuce pulls it just fine. The trailer has excellent brakes and a deuce actually stops better with it than without it. Pulling that trailer also alleviates the risk of failure associated with the deuce's single circuit brakes.
If someone pulls out in front of you you"ll kill them. Unbraked heavy trailer and it doesn't even transfer weight to the tow vehicle because there's no tongue weight.
There is no stopping it in a hurry.
I sold a set fitting this description for about $2500 not too long ago. The ones I sold were date code 2009. 100% tread. Aluminum MRAP rims.
Pics in a moment.

Edit to add-
Adapter plates are $100ish each for the good ones. NOS 395s on MRAP rims should generally be available for $350...

'The reasons you mentioned above about the tires on these being old, as well as several threads I've read on the forum about flat towing, and the one guy who got a HMMWV with no gear oil in the hub (from a private seller) are the main reasons why I have zero plans to use a tow bar and...
