Just purchases M1123, need hauling advice.

My primary concern is the risk of damage to the hmmwv at the time of loading. In any given vehicle loading situation, given a choice of GP loading with a forklift or paying an extra $500 to keep GP's forklift away I'd opt to pay the $500 every time. This is based on first hand personal...

Just purchases M1123, need hauling advice.

They have a propensity to tear things up. I wouldn't want GP anywhere near any truck with a fork lift. I've waved off more than one loadout and canceled transactions due to GP's forklift damage. My experience with CA scales has been that they have no interest in the noncommercial pickup truck...

Using a forklift to load it is sending up red flags for me.

Costs of commercial wrecker to tow a M939 series?

I've used tiw places to pick up and store 939series trucks multiple times. Typically $350 gets it picked up and stored for a month. If this is Killeen TX I have used and recommend Goode Towing.

    M416 Condition

The Colorado is rated to tow 3500-7000lbs. Presumably with the tow package yours is towards the upper end of that scale. An M1101 weighs 1480 lbs empty and would be my first choice to tow behind a pickup truck. A couple of caveats though - the 1101s are wide and tall. A lifted truck or a...

    M-817 Brake fluid

These trucks have single circuit air over hydraulic brakes. This means one broken line or one good leak and you have no brakes. Frequently without warning... Stomp on the brakes repeatedly in the parking lot to stress test the lines before you start the drive home. Far better to have the line...

Manual Override of Glow Plug Controller

Restricting the exhaust to aid starting a diesel engine isn't bad for it. It increases temperatures in the combustion chamber as a function of backpressure and initiates ignition that way. It isn't specific for hmmwvs, but rather works for any diesel. Works for NA better than for turbo engines...

    M998 upgrade

You hear them called a 1 1/4 ton truck. You know that civvy 1 ton trucks pull this type of load. Therefore it should not be that much of a stretch. ***nothing could be further from the truth**** The performance of a hmmwv is far closer to a jeep wrangler than it is to a heavy pickup truck...

How do you stop a m809 if the brakes fail?

I speculate that manufacture dates on the data plates were occasionally changed when going through rebuild. I've seen Manufacture dates on 939A0series trucks as late as 2007. And we drift off topic.....

How do you stop a m809 if the brakes fail?

Consider the rear diff ratio of 6.44:1. This makes a pinion brake useful only for very low speeds (which is where you see them used....) Using a pinion brake to try to make an emergency stop from even 45mph will just illustrate how kinetic energy will transform into heat and melt it. There's...
