The trip back to KS has begun.
I used the HMMWV as a daily driver while in GA.
Traveling together with the Jeep JKU pulling the travel trailer and the HMMWV pulling the welder. Cruising 55ish.
The HMMWV is getting about 12mpg pulling the welder.
Made Valdosta GA to Chattanooga TN on day...
I've driven dueces,5tons, and HMMWVs a couple thousand miles in a single trip without issues.
Sitting idle is much harder on them than moderate use.
My favorite are the 5ton trucks, but my use isn't sand specific.
I would not assert that the LMTVs are the most reliable of the bunch.
I'm certain that happens.
These numbers strike me as too high to be attributed to that.
It's easy to dismiss it as "they didn't properly size match the generator to the tractor" or "they didn't properly maintain it".
But the number is too large for me to just dismiss it...
These are guys that farm for a living, who run their equipment 24/7 during harvest. I'm reluctant to attribute the failures to not using enough tractor, or failure to adequately maintain it.
Failure modality was main bearing failures. The number was "several", too high to be coincidence.
My...
You'd think....
But apparently running a PTO generator loads them differently than running other PTO equipment. Storm and extended power outage in KS combined with a recent good deal on PTO generators caused a bunch of tractor failures a few years ago. Too many to be coincidence or tractors...
Licensing requirements vary by state. I don't know the specifics for WA. Many states have exemptions that apply.
I've had bunches of deuces and 5tons. My choice for a keeper truck is the 5ton in my avatar pic.
There's no wrong choice. All of the MVs are a load of fun. The more you research...
Question 1) I'm not familiar with that PD box, but there's a 60amp box that takes 208v 3phase in, and spits out 120v single phase from multiple receptacles. As well as a pass through for 208v 3phase.
Question 2) - I don't know enough about house wiring to have a definitive answer. But if 240v...
The generator head can be rewired single phase. But I wouldn't.
Load balancing the three 120v legs should be fairly easy.
Your household 240v single phase equipment should be happy with 208v single phase that you get using any two of the 3phase legs. If you read the labels they usually list a...
I cut down an MRAP bumper and put on one.
Instead of altering the truck, i suggest all alterations be made to the bumper and that it only require bolts to attach to the truck....
Empty M105A2 weighs 2750lbs. Remove the bed and you're dropping 900lbs or so. The 802 weighs 800lbs.
This yields a 2600lb total. You have the whole airbrake thing etc, but if the tow vehicle is a lifted one ton for instance it'd be do-able. If you're only occasionally transport it it'd be...
Why reinvent the wheel?
The military mounts these on M1101 chassis and M116A3 chassis. Probably a little more $ for a lot more trailer.
If you're cheap, and have enough truck to pull it, consider an m105 chassis....
Winches for example... worth $1500 retail. I'd happily give $500 each and sit on them while finding buyers. The scrapper wants the $1500 for them or he'd rather cut them up for the $85 scrap metal price than take my $500....
It's kind of an odd mindset. "I'm in the scrap metal business, not the...
Some random thoughts -
LEO had minimal interest in me. I had one follow me onto I29 from the airport in KC. He stayed behind me about 4 exits and then went away.
Comparing oranges and grapefruit - the HMMWV holds speed on hills better than a 5ton, but a 5ton has a higher top speed. The 5ton...
