I've driven dueces,5tons, and HMMWVs a couple thousand miles in a single trip without issues. Sitting idle is much harder on them than moderate use. My favorite are the 5ton trucks, but my use isn't sand specific. I would not assert that the LMTVs are the most reliable of the bunch.

I'm certain that happens. These numbers strike me as too high to be attributed to that. It's easy to dismiss it as "they didn't properly size match the generator to the tractor" or "they didn't properly maintain it". But the number is too large for me to just dismiss it...

You'd think.... But apparently running a PTO generator loads them differently than running other PTO equipment. Storm and extended power outage in KS combined with a recent good deal on PTO generators caused a bunch of tractor failures a few years ago. Too many to be coincidence or tractors...

Why reinvent the wheel? The military mounts these on M1101 chassis and M116A3 chassis. Probably a little more $ for a lot more trailer. If you're cheap, and have enough truck to pull it, consider an m105 chassis....
