The axles are geared the same. 6.44:1
M51A2 would have been multifuel. The NH250 Cummins is a good deal more powerful, especially on low end torque. (Multifuel is cool though...)
That's Indiana law. Many states mirror federal law. The federal law only kicks in once you trigger the interstate commerce clause.
Bottom line - always check with someone knowledgeable for the details of YOUR state. (Unfortunately "someone knowledgeable" usually does not include DMV employees)
It means you spent maybe $1000.
You gained just under 10% top speed, or working it the other way you dropped your rpms by 10% at any given speed.
Practically speaking, you increased your hwy cruising speed from 55ish to about 60.
Any losses to bottom end acceleration are probably cancelled...
Only when engaged in interstate commerce. Otherwise it doesn't apply. When not engaged in interstate commerce it defaults to whatever each individual state laws say. So, varies by individual state. Many states exempt antique/historic/classic.
This is why CDL is nearly a taboo topic here.
GVWR is the trigger in many states for CDL. The 809 series has more or less the same GVWR as the 939s. You may want to check before considering one. I suspect if the 939s require a CDL the 809s will also. (I have NO IDEA what SC wants).
Advantages of an 809series over a deuce -
1) Power...
At the cost of taking away from the bottom end acceleration in direct proportion to what you're adding to top speed. And of course the cost of replacing tires.
Not enough return on investment in my opinion. The 37's are fine. Cruising speed 55ish is fine.
I'm not anti-mod or anti- tires and...
I've had M35s, m809series, and M939series.
My choice is the M939s (A0 and A1 configuration). I prefer a manual transmission, but I also prefer full airbrakes.
I drove one (3spd/6.2) from KS to GA and back recently.
So no, it just isn't that big of a deal. Much higher priorities for the $ it'd take for the difference. Sure, I'd like another gear or two, but it just isn't that big of a deal.
This.
I question the accuracy of the measurements. Does it sound like zero oil pressure?
Add me to the rotella crowd. Along with the anti drainback WIX filter.
Made it to the farmhouse in KS last night.
Started the trip at 96*, ended the trip freezing to death in the mid 40's.
And J woke up this morning with what I believe is a kidney stone in her one remaining kidney. Off to the hospital we go...
This is my experience as well. If this were a truck and I was going to driive it 1000 miles I'd just take off and go and top the tank off with fresh fuel in about 50 miles and then again at 1/2 a tank.
If it's a genset that's going to sit prior to use, you can drain the tank and replace it...
The difference in speed between 35's and 37's is about 5% at any given rpm. It's a linear function.
There's always more to being comfortable at X mph than just rpm...
