My experience with A0 and A1 trucks is 5-6mpg, full or empty, or even towing a 2nd truck on towbars. A2 trucks vary more widely. I've done as well as 12mpg empty, and as poorly as 6mpg with a 2nd truck on towbars. Either motor will live essentially forever properly maintained.

No strong preference either way. Choose based on overall condition of the truck unless you're going to drive it enough for the fuel efficiency to be a game changer. You're going to want a block heater either way in your climate.

The output line will be hot if it's supplying pressurized air. No need to disconnect. My guess is that it is not hot. Disconnect the unloader line from the governor to the compressor. My guess is that when you do this, you'll find water. I haven't done this hands on on the A2s, but I have...

It's fixable. Just blow the water out. I suspect it may be time for a new air dryer.

Adding digits in front of the SN to make a 17 digit VIN creates a mismatch. When pulled over and you show a POI with a 17 digit VIN and the truck only has a 6 digit SN it can result in a ticket for no insurance - rationale is that you have insurance on a different vehicle with a different VIN...
