Tires, how cracked is too cracked?

Here's food for thought. I had an inner duel blow once, and it took out the hydraulic brake line(on a pre 68 2.5 ton civy truck with a single rear axle). Yup, single curcuit brake system. Since the truck was fully loaded, the other (outer) dual blew from the extra load. I ended up...

    818 Winch problems & Questions

The shaft should collapse just enough to get it off the PTO end. The other end, , you should be able to drive the U-joint apart. Then use a puller to remove the yoke. If your winch input shaft is really bad, it may need replacement. The yoke with the shear pin hole can be replaced. Fleet...

    818 Winch problems & Questions

Sounds like the PTO lever linkage was incorrectly adjusted, for the neutral position/lock plate. I've seen that before, and the resulting winch damage.

    heavy duty tow bar

Interesting, that drawing shows the hair clip pins, not the Lynch pins. Also has the 2 hole feet(that were supposed to be destroyed/obsoleted). Maybe the pins were updated later as well? I would never use the wire clip/hair pins on my tow bar.

    Engine temp

Use an IR gun and measure the radiator and water jacketed areas of the block. I doubt your running at 230, or it would be boiling out. The -20 has troubleshooting info for gauges listed.

    suggestion on the word help

Yes it does! I often edit those titles. I fully agree we need descriptive titles, and need to reserve dramatic titles and the word HELP for real emergencies.

Advantage of a CUCV over Civilian truck

If the SHTF and you have 30K + rounds, you can get any truck you want(after the SHTF). If your not a good mechanic, get a newer vehicle.

Sure, and to make this a lesson in searching, I knew the word "peanut butter" was mentioned in the thread. So that's what I searched, and it was the 3rd thread in my results. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/military-vehicle-road-trips/83548-louisville-ky-bound.html

2600 rpm is not "low", for a 478cubic inch inline diesel. An IH DT466 max rpm is about 1900-2400.
