something to think about - take a bite out of the bed such that two of tje transverse crossmembers will be just a few inches from each other when rewelding. This will greatly reduce the stresses on the welds and will make that are the strongest part of tje bed instead of the weakest...
Let me give you the full range of answers. With empty A2 trucks I've seen 8-12mpg. This one has been running about 10mpg cruising 60ish and the cargo cover is on.
Towing my 1 ton ram this one gets about 9mpg.
Towing your M109 with the A2 truck tractor I got 6-8mpg. That tractor got the worst...
Truck is hooked up. Life is good. Spare tire is missing (pics didn't show either way), but an unanticipated cargo cover is present, so that evens out. Interior is rough, as you'd expect for a truck that has been sitting out in the elements without a cab top.
Batteries are present, but flat...
While I was parked in the ft riley visitor pass parking lot my CTIS decided it was a traction impaired surface and took it upon itself to dump the air from all 6 tires.
It refused to air back up. So I'm crawling around on post at 20mph, bouncing, trying to coax the CTIS into reinflating the...
And think about departure angle. Rollcoal got his just right. DocPA ' s looks good too and I like the angled deuce bed.
If you want a dump, why reinvent the wheel? Start off with a dumptruck. ...
I watched your engine saga with interest.
What issues were there with the motor that would have been evident with a preview? I understood it that your truck overheated and seized....
this is what you had to say about driving it before it seized:
"..truck performed flawlessly on 2 45 mile...
If I wanted a bobbed truck (I dont), I'd cherry pick a good truck that isn't bobbed and then have someone whose work I trust do it.... at that point it's a known quantity with no worries.
Somewhat rhetorical question - what advantage does a bobbed truck have over a 931/932 with a cut down bed?
35 to 77 to junction city, where I've holed up for the night.
About 15 miles north on 77 from 35 is someone with a bunch of 5ton trucks, all sitting in a field, maybe 20 of them. Looked pretty good from what I saw.
I'm with James on this one... the be -all and end-all of 5ton trucks: an M931 or m932 with a 10' cut down cargo bed and a removable camper based on a 10' conex container or something similar....
It'll do 70+mph.
This truck looks run of the mill but it's actually one of the better 939series trucks I've driven. No rebuild tags on it anywhere and showing about 20,000miles. Runs like a condemned soul escaping he11.
I see no reason to exceed the maufacturer's speed rating of the tires...
