Well, the guy that is doing this job, said he owns a crane, and he said he will hook me up with some new cable from his supplier.
The new cable that was on my winch, was NOS mil spec surplus, for a 5 ton front winch.
I also have a few local connections for rigging supplies.
Stan, the winch drum had one layer and was about to start the second layer as the cable built up on one side(before the level winder would change direction. I would say there was about 100-125' of cable out. I think it was the combination of the high tension and the building of about 4 wraps at...
No sir, I was not.
I posted this, to both learn/teach, and entertain. All troubleshooting is appreciated. (Spicergears comments confirmed my thoughts on the level winder/cable breaking issue, completely).
It was a single line pull when the cable broke and when the drive shaft broke. I did...
SG, that sounds exactly like what happened to me. The spool and cable was clearly stacked up as you described, when the (new) cable failed.
As for the weights involved, what is not clear in the pics is the fact that the M819 was about 35 feet higher than the track hoe.
When I was winching...
The operator was the son of the guy doing the job. He was the hardest working guy there yesterday and took "orders" very well from everyone. Waist deep in mud with a shovel, ready to do whatever I asked. The other 2 guys were neighborhood volunteers. The other wrecker is a friend of mine and he...
You need to ask how to search more efficiently, not post new threads that are such common topics.
Do you have the tech manuals downloaded yet? Oil filter housing bolts need to be torqued to 60 ft/lbs. No more or they may break. Do not let the filter cans spin while tightening the bolt...
We only used winches. I was holding the little truck in place. He had 2 lines (snatch blocked) pulling.
The broken parts all can be fixed. Nobody was hurt (or even came close). We were as careful as we could be. We took our time and made little steps to get to the end.
I think we all...
Amy will post more pics tomorrow.
We did get it out. It just took some thinking and time.
The machine was sinking slowly and we did call for a heavy tow rig, but they were not available, so we had to make do with what we had available.
At first, there was no easy access to the machine...
No, but we put several trees under the track, with my backhoe.
This mud was black sand and about the consistency of mashed potatoes.
I was not the guy that got the excavator stuck. I was the guy they called to get it out.
After about 8.5 hours, we did get it out.
The tracks were parallel to the shoreline. One was under the mud/water by about 2'. The other was above the water and sort of on hard ground.
The idea was to have the boom up and use the winch to tilt the machine(sucking it out of the mud slowly) up onto the high side track, then let him drive...
The excavator was a rental and it had very very little hydraulic power. It could not lift the machine. It also had one side that would barely drive.
The hoe sat overnight there , and the rear counterweight was totally submerged this AM. I am surprised it started. They could not rotate it...
Hire it moved. Towing that with a pickup is a stupid idea. (sorry, could not think of a better description than stupid)
Why do you want/need a trailer you don't have a proper sized truck to use with?
1156 and 97 for the bulbs.
The wire numbers on all military stuff is standard.
Common crimp on "bullet" connectors will fit in the military douglas(wire) connectors. I would just unplug the front harness connections and insert the new flat 4 wire there.
I was just shutting off my...
