Just a thought, if your setting up the truck for overlanding, are you dead set on keeping the truck 3 axles? I had a buddy bob his truck and add a peterbilt rear air ride. That truck floated down the highway. Very nice ride and he was on 16R20s as well. It had a single leaf spring for...
1 MONTH TO RAUSCH UPDATE!
As of now, I have 6 trucks confirmed for the trip and about 4 to 5 maybes. Two 5 tons will wheel Rausch on Friday and Saturday, and the remainder of us will arrive Friday evening and wheel Saturday.
I will be arriving Friday afternoon.
Also, I have been asked...
Hey Hahn,
Yes stock CUCVs are great for this trip. We have had stock CUCVs on previous rallies and they always have a good time. There are easy ways around the harder/deeper obstacles. Or if you want to test your truck's limits, you can bury the truck but its all up to you!
Its a hard combo your after. I know local to me, I use Herc rentals for heavy equipment. They have a huge inventory and you can return at different sites if prearranged. Never did a one way rental like your doing. Maybe try a bigger national leasing company like Ryder, Penske, etc and look...
Every truck is different, but I wouldnt run mine past 2400. Most likely 2500 is ok but I would put a new harmonic balancer on and want to have the motor checked out to make sure all the necessary studs are properly torqued. When mine was stock, 2100rpm gave me 63 miles an hour. I dont see any...
Yes, to run 2300 and get full fuel while having the truck run like it should you needs gov springs. You can tighten the stock springs, but it wont give you the same effect as a 3k spring kit.
The only thing I want to add into this brainstorming is, you cannot make a standard Cummins 12 valve a NA motor. The standard injection pump are designed to sense boost, so if you take the turbo off, the truck wont run properly and it will be a complete slug and smoke like a train. If you want...
If you have a 350 in the truck already, I wouldnt go to an 8.3. Rebuild the 350 and make some type of screen in the front of the radiator or replace the grill to make it a finer screen material. The 8.3 can make power but you would have to rework all the mounts and move everything around to...

Finally got to the pull the trigger and joined the big boy club with a 915a1! What a difference from a 5ton. I love the big cam, she towed the trailer and 923a2 with out struggling.
Has any one installed a PTO onto the Allison? Im having a hard time finding a pto for it.
That video brings me chills. I work for a commuter rail road just east of NYC and have seen my fair share of cars trying to beat trains. A little patience would go a long way.
We preach a saying about on track safety - expect a train on any track, in any direction, at any time. You just...
I'll also say I would go 395s. Just put 16s on my 923a2 that has a dump hoist on it. Haven't loaded it up yet with my usual 7 yards of crushed concrete or fill but with about 2000lbs in the bed and a S280 in tow, she's running hot in 5th and down to 3rd up hills. I have the fuel turned up and...
