The tach body will pass through a 3-3/8" hole. There will need to be a small notch at 6:00 for an indexing ridge on the tach to fit into. Hope this helps.
Thank you soooo much! Yes I have the 4-screw tach. Question - would you happen to have the male end of the cannon plug so I can fabricate the harness from the sender to the tach? Here's a couple photos of the female end at the sender -
Warhorse - Thanks for your reply. I apologize, the thread is so long and old that did not read all the way back and see that the OP intended to install the tach in a civilian truck. Regarding my tach, do I understand you correctly that the sender that I have will indeed provide the correct...
Because the military tach is a 3500 rpm gauge which is more responsive to a low-rpm diesel engine. I am preparing to install a new HMMWV 3500 rpm tach in my M1028 in a custom-built cluster and have the HMMWV sending unit which mounts on the oil pump drive, however I have not tested this...
Yes that is indeed very interesting. I appreciate you posting the link. I will keep this in mind when I go to dropping the P400 in place. If the girdle or pan will not clear the OEM crossmember I will try to compare the ORD part to that beast and see if either will provide clearance. I AM...
Here's an early photo of the P400 girdle showing the front of the pan. I took this photo as the engine came out of the crate from GEP. There's a possibility that the pan will clear the OEM crossmember, I'm just going to need to get the engine started into the space and see. I am anxious to...
Nice work. I’m interested to know how much additional clearance the ORD crossmember provides under the front of the engine. Please post photos of this when you get to installing the engine. My P400 has the extra girdle which spaces the oil pan downward. I’m fairly certain the front of the pan...
Hold on there, Mr. Skinny. Don't be so quick to bash those "old non directional military tires".
I've been building and running 4WD chevy trucks since 1969, and have probably run just about every brand and type of tire out there. I have actually lost track of how many 4WD trucks I have owned...
Interesting info on that thermostat. I may have a similar issue once I get my P400 installed. I used a new high-flow water pump from FloKooler and a 195 stat. Only difference is my engine will not be turboed so I won’t have as much heat to dissipate. Looking forward to seeing your results...
Does anyone know a good-quality diesel timing light which receives its signal from the #1 injection line pulse? There are several on Ebay and Amazon but are prices from China-cheap to the stratasphere. Hate to buy a pig-in-a-poke. I would prefer a USA-made instrument. Thanks.
I have 2 of those 4000 rpm tachs. One is NOS still in the DELCO box and the other is in a gauge cluster. Your will need a signal conversion box to make it work. I have that too.
If you are not sure about which drive gear you have, simply remove the driven gear and housing and look in the hole with a flashlight. The color of the drive gear will indicate which one you have. Might have to squeeze your head in close, but it works. Or if you have one of those snake...
