Thanks Fox. Now I understand. I am looking for a direct-drive 24-volt starter. Hmmm.... I just remembered, I already have an original direct-drive 24-volt starter which came off my M1028 when I replaced it with the newer gear reduction unit. Let me see if I can find that thing, and if so...
Juan thanks for the post. Are you saying that a new HMMWV starter will not fit my new GEP 6.5 P400 block? My P400 came directly from GEP in the crate, so what I am looking for is the correct 24-volt starter for that engine. I prefer a new starter however not opposed to an excellent rebuilt...
Anybody happen to have an email address and/or cell number for Michael Vaiden? He has not responded to a message sent through his website and the number listed on the site will not allow me to leave a message.
Still looking for a new GEP HMMWV starter. I wouldn't turn down considering an...
Update - got my NOS flex plate cleaned and installed. GM part number 14077158. Found it on Ebay for $50 with free shipping. Would rather have this original US-made part than the cheap Chinese stuff available. It had slight surface rust on the gears but quick work with a fine wire wheel...
Rich - your timing chain set is new so why not use it? I seriously considered the gear set for my P400 build but decided against it for several reasons, one of which was my suspicions about that retainer piece. In evaluating the gear set from an engineering standpoint, I felt that the retainer...
I am installing a new GEP P400 HMMWV engine in my 1984 M1028 truck and cannot bring myself to install a cheap Chinese after-market starter on this magnificient piece of machinery. I have a few extra dollars laying around, and would like to purchase a new 24-volt starter that is correct for the...
While waiting on my metal fabricator to produce the Spinner bracket, I became uncomfortable with the ability of my engine stand to hold the weight of the P400 as I continued to add parts. So I jumped into my shop and designed/built a laminated beam cradle for the engine to sit in during...
Completed on my P400 build -
New injection pump driven gear installed
Rebuilt 200 HP DB2831-4911 mechanical injection pump installed
Brand new injectors installed
Brand new injection lines installed
700R4 TV bracket refurbished and installed
HMMWV oil pump gear installed
New FlowKooler...
Ok let me get this straight - you have a civilian K5 blazer. The vehicle originally came from GM with the standard gas engine but somebody in the past swapped in a 6.2 diesel and Jerry-rigged switches for glow plugs and high idle.
Respectfully, I believe you should post your questions over on...
Yes I studied that kit in depth before embarking on my effort to fabricate a custom bracket. The casting in that kit is unique to the Duramax and will not work on the front of a 6.2/6.5. I wish that it would, because it would certainly make it easier to add the Spinner to my system. I’m almost...
Rich - I fully intend to photo-document everything I do to my P400, including the Spinner centrifugal filter install. Regarding that, I am now in the process of engineering and fabricating a mock-up model bracket for the Spinner to mount on. The Spinner CF spins the oil at 6000 RPM via normal...
I waited on my FlowKooler clockwise water pump for 6 weeks. I was told that they use new castings, not refurbished used ones, and the clockwise pump is somewhat of a rarity because modern vehicles use serpentine belts which require counter clockwise pumps.
Good luck on your engine work.
I am interested in these kits. Question - what size hose is run from the rear block-off plates forward to the crossover? From the photos, the early kits had 3/8" hose (6AN) and the newer kits have 1/4" hose (4AN).
The GM part number is 14066255. I suggest you do a search on the auction sites. Or as an alternative, you can post an ad in the SS Classifieds and obtain a used one from a fellow SS member.
Hope this helps.
OK here is an update - I received the FlowKooler high-volume clockwise-rotation water pump and Fel-Pro gaskets. Before assembling, however, I media-blasted the water pump backing plate and treated it with Etch-Prep. I then laid the backing plate down with the FlowKooler in position, and...
Here's what I plan to do - I want to retain the original CUCV idiot light system, as well as add electrical gauges inside the cab. I will use the original CUCV sending units to power the idiot lights, and will add additional sending units to power the gauges inside the cab. I will...
