My MEP003a lives under a tarp and when I need to use it I pull the tarp and fire it up. Yesterday we had mucho storms and we lost power and we sat in the dark as we were being dumped on with freezing rain / rain. The wife was complaining but I wasn't real thrilled about running the 003a in the...
I've noticed an oil leak, which appears to be coming from the top of the push rod tube. I looked pretty close and it's not coming from the valve cover and leaking down. In looking at the TM is looks like there is some sort of packing in the push rod tube, which I'm guessing is a oil seal of...
One of the small diameter oil lines under the air shroud is leaking (above and to the left of the oil filter). Are they the same size and material as automotive brake lines? It looks as if it would be an easy fix with some brake line and a flare tool...

I've got a couple off issues that are plaguing my 003a:
1. Last week when I went to start it for it's monthly run, I noticed that the fuel didn't seem to be draining back into the tank (normally I can hear it) when the switch was in the prime setting. I wasn't sure if it was due to the fact...
The other day I was changing the oil / filter on the MEP 003a using a ch6pl filter. It fit correctly and it came with a number of big gaskets, one fit perfect and two small washer / seals. I didn't have the TM with me so I figured the fatter rubber washer went down by the spring and the thin...
The starter lockout switch in my 003A hasn't ever worked right, resulting in the starter griding against the flywheel when starting. To work around it, I've gotten pretty good at releasing the switch at 'just the right time' to keep it from grinding. I've read the TM and adjusted the points...
I've read the old posts and it seems that 15W40 or straight 30 is fine for the 003a. Where I live I see temps in the 90s during the summer and down to zero or below in the winter. Due to the hours I'll run it I'm a once a year oil change type of guy.
All that said, my Kubota tractor needs...
As the only power I have at the barn is my 003a, one of my buddies brought over his buzz box, some rods and some scrap metal to try welding with the 003a. Contrary to what some of the manufacturers say, it worked just fine.
Even with the welder set on 180 amps with a pretty good sized rod...
I keep my 003a down by the barn where there is no power. Today I went to fire it up for my monthly / every other month run and it cranked for a bit and then the batteries went dead before it would start. So I had to pull the batteries and take them up to the house where I'm charging them (one...
I ordered one of these from Delks for $25 (not my pict) so now I need to come up with a hose to go from the adapter to the aux fuel pump on my 003a.
Any suggestions or any idea on the size of the fittings (maybe I can get the fittings and hose at an auto parts store)?
If I make up my own...
I've got a line on some SO 6/4 cable (#6 conductor / 4 conductors) which is supposed to be good for 55 amps @ $1.50 a foot (used). Since the 003A is good for 52 amps and I was planning on using a 50 amp breaker on the transfer switch and not more than 75 to 100' from the gen to the transfer...
After burning up the the forums for the last few months, I finally pulled the trigger and picked up a pretty nice MEP 003A mounted on a M105 trailer frame. It's a heavy setup but the trailer / generator will work out great around the house / barn for my needs.
That being said I spent the...
I'm 'still' looking for a 003 and/or 003 on a trailer. That being said, anyone in Northern Indiana (South Bend area) got one that is willing to fire theirs up and give me a nickel tour on how they work (yes, I've been reading the TMs but I want to see them / hear them first hand)?
Do most...
There are a couple of 003a's withing a couple of hundred miles of my house (driving distance). One has the ASK (Acoustic Suppression Kit) and the other doesn't. The one with the kit is about $400 more than the other. Is it worth the extra $400? My nearest neighbor is 600 feet or so through...
I've been burning up the internet (here and Smokstak) reading about the 003a, which I think will fit my needs just fine. I'm mechanically inclined with a big tool box and a couple of friends way smarter than me. That being said, my use would be to power my barn, which is to far back to run...
