I'm running 80 lbs pressure in the 1600 tires on my M818. I don't haul or tow anything with it. Has anyone played around with lower pressures to achieve a softer ride on-road?
What about offroad? Do any of you guys air down when you leave the highway and hit the dirt?
Thanks.
I finally had a chance to go play with my M818 yesterday. It was my first time testing it's off-road capabilities. I didn't do anything crazy but let's just say I'm very pleased with how it performed. It was a really fun day.
Here's some video that my passenger took......

I finally had a chance to get all three trucks together in one shot. I'm still missing my Suzuki Samurai rockcrawler which is torn down for a complete rebuild right now. That one would obviously get parked at the left of this photo and be labelled as 'puny'.:D
I love how the M818 dwarfs a...
I bought all six Michelin XZL 1600s for my M818 from a guy in Wisconsin. They were already mounted on the wheels pictured below. He delivered them to Andy (army6x6) in Owatonna, MN where they were installed on my truck before I picked it up and drove it home.
Can someone look at the pic and...
I picked up a hydraulic winch for my M818 on Saturday. Thank you Kurt Anderson (BigJuice69).
This winch came off a 5-ton wrecker and I believe it's rated for 15,000 lbs. My initial thought was to extend my front bumper and mount it there. But this thing is huge and heavy and a more central...
I know someone on SS has been selling a kit for the Multi-fuel engine in the M35A2 and some 5-tons that uses a 12-volt alternator aside of the 24-volt power. Anyone know if there's a kit like this available yet for the NHC-250?
I'm trying to diagnose why my M818 won't start. The batteries (when charged) turn the engine over fine, but it seems fuel is not getting to the engine. I checked the emergency stop cable (the most likely culprit) and it's not the problem.
I still haven't pressure tested to check the lines...
Anyone know if John Tennis (Jatonka) is around lately. I'm trying to buy his shifter boots but my emails don't seem to be getting through. I also left a phone message for him.
I need to add a bunch of lights to my M818 to pass safety inspection. Aside from that, I really want my truck to have as much safety lighting as possible since I'll be driving it on lonely roads at night, slowly.
I would like to add the following:
- roof clearance lights
- side...
Is there a high-beam indicator light on dash? This is one of the items that failed the safety inspection on my M818.
If there is one - where on the dash is it located?
For my M818, can I use these for clearance lights on the roof and turn signal indicators on the front fenders?

I finally got my M818 home Wednesday. Thanks to Andy Cox at Army6x6.
Drove her approx 550 trouble-free miles home on the interstates with the pedal on the floor. It was a fun ride. The funniest part was taking the 494 by-pass around Minneapolis and having folks in multiple cars passing me...
Anyone know where I can find 5-ton front leaf springs/hangars/shackles? I tried the couple sources I know of but no dice on the springs.
I also checked the SS classifieds section and did not find any.
I will soon be driving the M818 I just purchased from Owatonna, Minnesota to my home just north of Winnipeg. The drive should take me around ten hours, although I'll probably stop halfway in Fargo, North Dakota to rest. I also want to avoid night driving until I get it home and go through it...
Alright, I tried to find it in the Vehicle Specifications section under resources at the top of this webpage but couldn't find it.
I googled "Cummins 250 torque" and found a couple other discussion forums talking about this engine - but the discussions weren't specific to the military 6x6 800...
I have a chance to purchase a set of nearly-new 16.00 x 20 Michelin XZLs already mounted on 3-piece wheels. I'm told this set of wheels and tires has tubes. How do these compare to the HEMTT 2-piece wheels? Anyone know the width of the 3-piece wheels.
The two benefits I see with this purchase...
So it looks like I'm close to making a deal on an M818.
I'd like to get 16.00-20s for it. What choices are out there in this size, and does anyone have any brand preferences. 100dollarman advertises Goodyear AT A2 as well as Michelin XZL.
I've been told 16.00-20s are getting hard to find...
I figured I would pose this question here since I assume many of you civilian 5-ton owners have owned (or still do own) an M35A2 as well.
I have been researching to buy an M35A2. I want to single it with 395s. I also may want to bob it down the road, but after driving it around as a 6x6 I may...
Can one of you "bobbers" take a tape measure to your truck and tell me the length to the back of the frame? I might be buying an already bobbed deuce without the bed and my trucker friend who might be hauling it for me wants to know the deuce's dimensions.
Thank you.
