Need members honest opinions of value for my m1009

Friends my sojourn into the world of military vehicles will have to wait. I'm headed back to grad school and will have no time for hobbies. I just had my master gm mechanic (30+ years experience and worked on these things for the guard) go over every inch of this truck, rebuilt the starter...

Don't know if this helps anyone, but check you're electrical grounds!

I've gone through many starters over the years and always had problems with starting. I recently had a master mechanic, who used to work on these old CUCV's, do a thorough electrical check. He said I " wasn't getting much fire". So he put an industrial sized ground from under the dash to the...

How many times have you guys rebuilt your CUCV starter?

I had mine rebuilt by a very competent shop (and expensive of course!), two years ago and it's starting to go out again. I have put a very few miles on it, no hard usage, and here we are again! What would cause a starter to keep going out? Thanks, Wally

Not sure a bad omen or not, fuel suction sound?

I've searched the forum and checked the TM's with no joy. This may be normal but, not sure. A buddy helped me put on a spin on fuel filter. Man this immediately made this old, unreliable truck(m1009) run like a CHAMP! It now starts every time, all the time. Fuel mileage has improved as well. The...

I know I'm going to win a Gomer award for this question, but here it is anyway!

What is the size and thread type of the nuts that are on the positive battery junction on the firewall ? I bought a box of 5/16 coarse hex nuts and was told this is the same as 12mm. I tried both fine and coarse 5/16 but they don't screw down right. What am I missing here? The bolt is not...

    M1009 battery setup question

With the Roscommon 12volt conversion, there wouldn't be any reason to keep both batteries in parallel would there? Can't you just run both positives independently to the positive connection on the firewall? That would work 24 or 12volt wouldn't it? Thanks

Small oil leak from back seal, how long before seal go's?

Hello all, I've got a small oil leak from my blazer's back seal. What is ya'lls experience with this. Any idea how long before the back seal go's out? Guesstimate.

Best source for back and side window gaskets?

I definitely need the back window rubber gasket replaced. The side windows look to be in good shape, but there's a slight leak in both windows. Is there any kind of sealer for a slight leak? Autozone has window gaskets but they seem kinda thin. Where do ya'll get your parts? Thanks.

    Roscommon 12volt conversion the BEST!

The only reason I still have this old m1009 is because of this conversion. I'm no mechanic but if you can follow instructions, this is very doable. This truck's electric problems were solved by the 12volt conversion and I'm actually enjoying driving it instead of having the biggest, ugliest...

Any one do the Roscommon 12volt conversion?

I just spent two days and a lot of money rebuilding two alternators and rebuilding the starter and converting to 12volt, and it's not working! Glow plugs not making any sounds. Got lights and wait light. And before the I told you so's begin It didn't work in 24 volt either. The starter and...

Disenchanted with m1009, Rather have an M880!

Hello all. I have an m1009 blazer bought from the army. This thing is a money pit, even doing a lot of the work myself! I was Air Force in the late 70's early 80's. We had all Dodge vehicles and they were great. I think they were m88o's series. I very much liked the Ram Charger. Are there any of...

DIY 24 to 12 volt starter conversion

Hello all, This is my first post, so be gentle please. I used search and looked in the help sections and not found an answer. Has any one rebuilt their 24 volt starter themselves and converted it to 12 volt, on the m1009. If so, what are the details. I'm not a mechanic but thats part of the...
