Those all look nice. It would free up some space in the back too. Looks like a welding project for me sometime in the future. As soon as I can figure out where to get some metal for a reasonable price.
BTW, Is that steel or aluminum, and how much does it weigh by itself? I tend to...
Thanks for the info. I looked up the part, it isn't expensive. The job doesn't look too hard to do. It'll give me a chance to change out some hoses and radiator fluid at the same time.
When my truck warms up on a very cold morning, like we've been having the past week, a sheet of fog starts coming out from the front of the dashboard next to the windshield. It doesn't smell like radiator fluid and the radiator fluid level is the same as it has been. It doesn't smell like...
Threads like this are useful as the search results are not always the best due to the terms used. For example, I used the terms " best cucv trailer." The search removed the term "best" and only used "cucv" and "trailer." The results did not yield the thread "Correct trailer for a M1009", but did...
Before I tell you what it was doing and how I "fixed" it, let me tell you a few modifications I did to it prior to the incident.
I did the doghead relay mod, replaced the glow plug relay with one that was recommended, did the resistor panel reroute mod and added a glow plug button in the cab...
Alright, I said I would post what I did to get mine to work, but I forgot as I was so happy that it actually ran.
I bought some wire brushes and a large tube of dielectric grease. I unscrewed every contact on the positive and negative blocks on the firewall and brushed every contact, washer...
Your problem seems a lot like mine. It will turn over and even act like it will start then nothing. All power shuts off. Not even the heater fans or lights will come on. The glow plug control box bypass switch I installed will light up the wait light.
I did the Doghead relay mod, bypassed the...
Brutusdog, since I didn't have a replacement for the rubber cover, I took a piece of 3/8 tubing, sliced it longways and taped it to the wire so that it covered the post. It is sitting mostly under the adjustment bracket, so it isn't an eyesore.
Warthog and others helped me out last week when I was all but giving up fixing my truck. The positive post on my passenger alt came in contact with the mounting bracket and toasted some fusible links. The one I missed was one on a big red wire coming from the battery that went under a wiring...
I got to Autozone with the destroyed fusible link and they nor I have any idea how many amps it was rated for. They have no resources for looking up stuff like that. I brought up the wiring diagram on my phone, but they still had no clue.
Does anyone know what it is supposed to be?
Mistaken1, the links to the TMs that can be downloaded are broken. I cannot download them.
I wired in a secondary aftermarket fuse box and put 10 amp fuses in it as all I was going to use the outlets for was a fan and cell phone charger.
JOHNSR, Thanks a lot! I had already replaced 2 (one...
Batteries are good. I did not know there was another fusible link next to the master cylinder. I replaced two that were somewhat near it. One was blown out. I'll check again in the morning.
A couple weekends ago, I went to Autozone to get some new belts. The belt on the drivers side alt went on fine, but the one on the passengers side was a little tight. I pushed the alternator so that it would slide down the adjustment bracket some more and the positive input terminal came in...
I am about to paint my M1009 and decided to paint it the newer style camo pattern, however I saw a picture of one painted in this scheme and it did not look good to me. I think the green might have been too light, the brown the wrong shade or whatever. In any case, it gave me second thoughts...
Thanks for all your help. I installed the glow plug relay and 2 batteries. I was amazed that it started right up. I had to drive it around the block a few times. Now I have to get the title work finished and some plates.
