I might as well bump this thread as it is the most relevant. I too never got an SF97 from a GL sale in 2013 and am now finally ready to start driving my M923A2 legally. California clarified to all DMV offices in VIN 2017-26 that an SF97 is needed for all military vehicles and that is the script...
Are the windshields going to be custom cut to size? Did you gain any overall height on the cab? I have been wanting to do this same thing but couldn't figure out the best way to do the door seals and hinges. It's good to see there's an easy method out there.
Thanks for that you info, good to know my goal of a low rider RV might be possible.
Your extra inch is due to the lever created by mounting the bag behind the axle. This allows you to run less pressure and lowers the ride frequency so it'll ride like a caddy. Kind of.
I followed your <parts>...
Did the ride height change much? Or rather how much up and down travel would you have if set to the stock height? I want to do this same thing but from what I've seen it lifts it quite a bit. Good for monster trucking, bad for RV'ing.
I had an old timey semi driver neighbor that swore the wedge...
My M925 feels a bit jittery too. Best way to fix it would be to drop an axle and put air-ride front and rear. I'm hoping that'll fix the ride on mine at least.
There exists bare BAE Caiman chassis' for sale right now that include lots of good pictures of the setup. I had the opportunity to pick up a Merritor IRS assembly and was looking into what it would take to put it under the front of my truck. The steering box would have to get moved and idlers...
I love it. Looks like the idea I've got drawn up for my M923. Did you build to the length of the original bed? 20ft? What's the overall height on it? Any more pics or details on the subsystem?
I tied every combination I could think of to jump with either one or two other 12v cars and just ended up with lots of sparks and no success. Eventually I had to grab two 12v battery chargers and hook them to two batteries at a time for at least an hour apiece to get it to crank. You can hook...
That looks like fun. If you left the canopy on the truck you wouldn't have needed the EZ-UP! There were a couple here on the other coast in Pismo last year crawling through some pretty soft and torn up dunes that didn't appear to have too much issue. They stuck to the flats mainly but attempted...
I met your friend the other day, stopped by to see if he was selling the framerails off the stripped truck. He's a very ambitous guy that should do a pretty good job of installing an air ride system. It sounded like he was going to use big heims on a 4 link instead of the commercial style rubber...
The build thread will come, or just a planning and musing thread ala JesusGatos.
You're right, I should clarify my homebuilt box trailer will be tagged 9,999lbs GVWR. It's just easier writing 10K than 9.999K
There are a few reasons, most of them I'll get flak for, lol. I'm looking to get away from a CDL, reduce the rolling resistance to increase MPG, drop a little weight, reduce tire wear from scrub, and make it easier to air ride it. I view the M923A2 as a cheap, low mileage AWD medium duty truck...
Lots of good information in here, I hope not too much mis-information. My plan is to drop an axle, build a box and register it as a motorhome to get around the CDL, CARB, and hopefully de-rate it for cheaper insurance. This won't be happening for a little bit and the truck just sits for now. I...
I am definitely not happy with the power output of my M932A2. While I'm sure it can tow a house up a muddy slope, I'm struggling to make 35mph up hills around my house that have a 50mph posted speed limit. Of course I'm used to driving a chipped Duramax, but it can do 55mph of the same hills...
Will anything be going on early Sunday? I'm doing Mojave Rd in the prerunner Friday to Saturday and will be swinging through the area early Sunday. Sadly not with my M923A2 though.
